Groans greeted the half-time whistle from the Edinburgh fans because they know that was a big chance in the last play of the half to really take a grip of this match.

There has not been a huge amount of action on either try-line, but it has been a compelling first 40 nonetheless.

Darcy Graham looks like he could cut loose every time he gets his hands on the ball and Edinburgh will want to get it to him as often as possible in the second half. Gloucester will be thinking the same in relation to the likes of Jonny May and Louis Rees-Zammit.

I think the score is a fair reflection of the first half. Things have been so tight, with both defences coming up really quickly.

I thought Edinburgh might carry more directly than they have and use their physique up front.

The point of difference for the try was Seb Atkinson's yellow card.

It may have been a low-scoring affair, but it was breathless at times.

Edinburgh have had the better of it, and made their brief man advantage count when Glen Young scored in the corner.

However, the hosts have been a little ill-disciplined and they have allowed Gloucester within two points when Adam Hastings slotted a penalty.

Edinburgh try to run through Bill Mata but Gloucester bring the big man down.

Dave Cherry hits a great line but inches short of the line, Gloucester captain Lewis Ludlow somehow turns over. That's a try-saver, for sure.

Ben Healy stabs another kick through and Harry Paterson chases.

Caolan Englefield slides in feet first, slide tackling Paterson who flips through the air, acrobatically.

It's just a penalty and they kick to the corner.

Chance for Gloucester to get on the scoreboard as WP Nel is penalised for not rolling away sufficiently.

Up steps Adam Hastings, and he's on the scoresheet in his hometown.

Gloucester are coming forward and offering a real threat for the first time. Seb Atkinson is back on and takes a big carry near the 22m line, but a big Glen Young tackle forces the visitors back.

Adam Hastings tries the banana kick in behind the defence, but he gets it wrong. In the battle of the Scotland number 10s, Healy is winning at the moment.

Edinburgh have numbers on the right but Darcy Graham spots a gap and bumps through the tackles like a pinball.

Ben Healy tests the Gloucester defence with a chip kick, but Ollie Thorley gathers. Bill Mata smashes him back, before WP Nel is pinged on the deck.

Absolutely decisive from Edinburgh.

Edinburgh could sense Gloucester had bunched up in the middle and found Young, who had stayed wide.

That was absolutely daft from Seb Atkinson. He was told not to use his hands in the ruck while the referee stood over him.

Then, when Hamish Watson tried to pass the ball from the base of the ruck, Atkinson slapped the ball out the flanker's hand.

Darcy Graham has taken a sore one on the far side after a little scurry into Gloucester territory. Harry Paterson is also looking rather dazed on the near side.

It's not just Edinburgh either. Kirill Gotovtsev is off for the hosts with Fraser Balmain on at tighthead.

That was chaotic.

The last four or five minutes have been played at 100mph. Gloucester are ferocious in the tackle, Edinburgh electric in the carry. It was just collision after collision.

There will be some sore, sore bodies tomorrow morning.

It's a full house of 7774 inside the Hive tonight and it's a cracking atmosphere for this - if you want to indulge the cliche - 'Battle of Britain'.

The Gloucester fans are here in healthy numbers and in fine voice and that has brought the Edinburgh fans to life in response.

Let's hope the match lives up to the noise.

Grant Gilchrist is pinged as he's caught at the bottom of a ruck after finally downing the frantic Zach Mercer - who returns to the city of his education. The number eight spent a couple of years at nearby Merchiston Castle.

Gloucester kick to the corner. The maul is formed, but this time Edinburgh win the penalty, just like Gloucester did at the other end of the pitch.

Edinburgh won a throw on the 5m line from that Wes Goosen kick, and the ball is in Dave Cherry's hands.

The problem is, the maul twists and in a sea of bodies, Gloucester hold it up. Good 'D' from the visitors.

They win the scrum, and then a penalty.

That's not ideal for Edinburgh. Ben Healy spins out wide for Wes Goosen, who kicks over the top and chases.

Ping goes his hamstring. That's absolutely devastating for the Kiwi winger, he's been in superb form. Harry Patterson is on.
