That century break from Selby was cold, calculating and clinical. That's how you take advantage of an opponent's mistake. And what a time to get your first century of the match.

Mark Selby's game means he will win a lot more titles. His temperament is probably his strongest asset. He's incredibly hard to play against and incredibly hard to beat.

Selby's best break of the tournament takes him two away from the titlepublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2016

    Frame 13: Selby 8-5 O'Sullivan (Selby break of 137)

The interval may have come at the worst time for Ronnie O'Sullivan. He had won three on the spin but the time away from the table has given Mark Selby a chance to regroup.

And that is what he has done with his first century of the match. He took advantage of that O'Sullivan missed red and built a perfect 137 clearance, the best break of the match.

It is not just the highest break of the match, it is Selby's best effort of the competition. A run of 120 was his previous best.

Should first round losers get paid?

Ryan Finnigan: I don't subsidise mediocrity" from Barry Hearn sounds a lot like "I don't respect all players" to me.

Sean: You can't pay players for losing in the 1st round. Only reward someone for winning a match. Don't reward failure.128 is too many.

Rex Banner: Getting very worried, find myself agreeing with Barry Hearn. Excellent little piece by the way.

Lee: Good idea from Selby about an A and B tour.

Should first round losers get paid?

Ronnie O'Sullivan has a unique take on the situation of discussing whether first round losers should get paid at events.

He thinks a lot of the players should not even be there to start with. He says: "I look at what's coming through and I think 'I was better than them when I was 11.

"When I turned pro, I was ready whereas these players coming through aren't ready to mix it with the real class players."

Should first round losers get paid?

Some contrasting views from some of the game's players.

Mark Allen: "There's so many people going broke in this game, something needs doing about it. Three quarters of the tour are losing money every event. First and probably second round losers are down money."

Fergal O'Brien: "Before I hit a ball, my expenses are £30,000 every year. You'd have to win a lot of matches to earn £30,000 to just make you even."

Shaun Murphy: "It's a hard, brutal single player sport where if you win, the rewards are there but if you lose first round, you better go back and practice because it is that brutal."

"Minimum wage is someone who works for a set amount every day. Professional sportsman choose to follow their dreams."

O'Sullivan you tease. He has lulled us all into thinking he was out of the game, then starts producing some magic. A tricky red, with hampered cueing, into the middle helps him build a break of 43, and he is still there.
