G: What a frame from Selby! Now takes lead 3-2!

Roenan Fallon: Really hope Ronnie wins.

Scott Murray: The final is over. O'Sullivan has the ability, just not got the metal strength to come back against Selby.

You've gone very early with that shout, Scott. Very early indeed.

There were 18 points in fouls so that's why there were so many balls on the table. Mark had a look at the table and off he went. I don't blame him because it's all down to the player.

We're doing Mark Selby a disservice because he's a scorer. You only have to look at his last two opportunities to see that. It's incredible he's been at the top of the game as number one for so long.

  4. Selby in front for first time todaypublished at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2016

    Frame 5: Selby 3-2 O'Sullivan (82-0, Selby break of 63)

Mark Selby has moved into the lead after taking frame five.

He was helped by 18 points in fouls from O'Sullivan at the start before Selby's break of 63, which came after a break of 67 in frame four before the mid-session interval.

Five frames in, four breaks of at least 60 - two from each player.

Selby has been top of the world rankings for 22 months, and is showing why

Simon Vaughan: Mark Selby clearly doesn't think he always gets the credit he deserves, and he's right.

Danny Boyle: 2 of Selby's frames have been gifted to him.

Scott Murray:  If Selby gets a frame ahead then it's all over, O'Sullivan won't come back. Selby mentally stronger.

    Frame 5: Selby 2-2 O'Sullivan

A few early bonus points for Mark Selby in the fifth frame as Ronnie O'Sullivan fails at three attempts to get out of a two-cushion safety.

The game would be so, so much more simple if you could see the graphics where to play the shot, unfortunately O'Sullivan doesn't have that advantage and this effort crashed into the pink instead of the intended red.

    Selby 2-2 O'Sullivan

Mark Selby has been speaking to Stephen Hendry in a pre-recorded interview that has just been shown on BBC Two. Here's what he said:

"It was like losing a pint of blood every shot, I was living and breathing snooker so much, but now I go home to the family and don't beat myself up as much as I did before.

"It's a great challenge when you're playing the best in the game and to play Ronnie in a major final is always a dream come true.

"You go out there to play your best but sometimes you can't do that and you need your B game. I try not to let things bother me if I am struggling, and try to focus on the next ball."

So, which Masters tie are you looking forward to Steve?

All of them! It's amazing, the standard is so good now.

It's the cream of the cream. Now the standard of snooker is so high anyone can make a 147 at any time.

It's a real jamboree of snooker and it's great for the fans.

    Selby 2-2 O'Sullivan

BBC TV have just been showing an interview with Ronnie O'Sullivan, conducted by six-time world champion Steve Davis.

"I'm just like any other player and sometimes you just ain't good enough," says O'Sullivan.

"Of course I care. I've been on survival mode this week really. First three matches, yeah (I won) because I didn't have anyone pushing me but the last few matches have been tough.

"I wasn't playing in this tournament last year but I was watching every one of Mark's games. Mark is a tough match player. We've had some unbelievable battles. He's a good lad with a great mindset. He's a warrior and I have great respect for that."

    Frame 4: Selby 2-2 O'Sullivan

Of the two players Mark will be happier. You need a foothold in the match to take control and at 2-2 Selby will be happy with that.

The length of the match isn't that important at the moment. It's about taking your chances and Ronnie will be kicking himself that he hasn't taken his.

  16. All square at the mini-intervalpublished at 14:27 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2016

    Frame 4: Selby 2-2 O'Sullivan (103-8, Selby break of 67)

That missed blue off the spot does not come back to haunt Mark Selby and going into a mini-interval we are all square at 2-2.

Selby does the business with a break of 67. So in four frames, we have had breaks of 124 and 63 from O'Sullivan and a 67 from Selby.

As expected a high-quality affair and as expected it is tight and tense. Great stuff so far.

    Frame 4: Selby 1-2 O'Sullivan

Back to the present and both players have made a few errors in frame four. Selby held a lead and missed a blue off the spot to give O'Sullivan a chance, but the Rocket misfires to bring the world number one back to the table.

Today sees Belgian referee Olivier Marteel complete snooker's Triple Crown, after the 2015 World Championship and 2016 Masters.

I spoke to him last night and he was understandably excited to be recognised as one of the sport's top officials.

All that standing up, then a drive back to his home country tomorrow. Tough guy.
