    Frame 3: Selby 1-2 O'Sullivan (0-63, O'Sullivan break of 63)

Yep. The first frame took 10 minutes roughly, the second 33, so we needed a quick frame. And that's what we got as O'Sullivan's break of 63 is enough to give him the frame.

Does Selby want to continue and play for snookers? Nope, he has had enough in this one and O'Sullivan retakes the lead.

At the end of the frame O'Sullivan spots some celebrity support, in the shape of artist Damien Hirst.

    Frame 3: Selby 1-1 O'Sullivan

One fast frame, one slow frame. Is that how this match is going to go? Well, O'Sullivan is at the table and in a good position so maybe that sequence will continue.

    Frame 2: Selby 1-1 O'Sullivan

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

That was a bad frame for Ronnie to lose. He had chances both early on and late in the frame but didn't take them as he normally does.

It is probably on his mind that Selby has a good tactical brain. Walking out of the arena for a quick break before the next frame probably wasn't a bad thing to do to clear his mind.

    Frame 2: Selby 1-1 O'Sullivan

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

How Mark Selby won that frame I don't know. He didn't have any table time but he finds ways to win. It's brilliant how he does that. He's so good at winning the scrappy, tactical frames.

Sidtrotter: Classic Ronnie frame. Classic Selby frame.1-1 great stuff.

Philip Christmas: Today is housework and #bbcsnooker, external day.

Kelvin Gray: Here comes the grinder Selby, he likes scrappy n tactical frames, slow play.

    Frame 2: Selby 1-1 O'Sullivan (71-41)

Selby misjudges a safety on the last red and O'Sullivan has a chance. There are 35 points on the table with O'Sullivan 24 behind. He gets up to the brown but misses with the rest, his second error with that piece of equipment today

That proves the last shot of the frame from O'Sullivan as Selby downs brown, blue and pink and we are level at 1-1.

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

"The first frame was just over 10 minutes, now they are approaching 30 for the second."

We still have one red on the table as well, so it is not going to be over any time soon.

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

Selby wraps O'Sullivan up in a bit of trouble with the cue ball tight to the bottom corner pocket, with a two-cushion escape needed to hit the last remaining red on the table.

Three times O'Sullivan tries. Three times he fails and fouls. Each time by the narrowest margin imaginable. But the 12 points gifted to Selby means he has a 24-point lead and he now has to be favourite to take this frame and make it 1-1.

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

Well, some of those tricky reds have been cleared by Selby, but now we have two reds on the table, one on the baulk cushion and one on the side cushion.

The world number one has a 12-point lead in frame two, but John Virgo has just said "there is quite a bit of snooker left in this frame" and who am I to argue with JV?

This is what they are playing for.

Which one out of Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Selby will get their hands on the trophy later on?

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

    Frame 2

Seven reds near the side cushion, the pink and blue all over the place. The table looks like it does during one of my games. We may be here for a long time in this one.

There are few better in the game at safety play than Selby, whereas we all know O'Sullivan likes to get on with it. Will Selby turn the match into a safety exchange? If he does, how will the Rocket cope with that?

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

I said Selby had a good chance to make it 1-1, but he cannot capitalise as he only has 10 on the board before he misses a long red after losing position.

    Cue a safety battle.

What a start from Ronnie O'Sullivan. The Rocket starts with a century break.

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

The first mistake from O'Sullivan comes in frame two. He tries to sink the blue into the middle and has perfect position on the next red. However, the blue stays on the baize and Selby has a good opportunity to make this 1-1.

    Frame 2: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan

O'Sullivan has certainly come out swinging today. An excellent break of 124 in the opener and he gets up and running with an excellent long red in the second.

He certainly looks like he means business today. Selby is going to have to be on the top of his game if he is to get any joy.

  17. 100th century of the 2016 competitionpublished at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 4 December 2016

That century from O'Sullivan is the 100th of this year's tournament and 98th of his career at the UK Championship.

He will have to go some if he is to match or beat Stephen Hendry, but with O'Sullivan you just never know.

    Frame 1: Selby 0-1 O'Sullivan (0-138, O'Sullivan break of 124)

You cannot afford any mistakes against O'Sullivan. It is an old adage that every player knows. Selby gave him a chance with one bad attempt at a pot, and O'Sullivan ruthlessly finishes off the frame.

He wraps up the frame in quick time with a clearance of 124.

Talk about an early statement. Wow.

    Frame 1: Selby 0-0 O'Sullivan

Some early nerves from both men in the opening frame as O'Sullivan misses an attempt on a red with the rest after scoring 14, but he is instantly back at the table as Selby cannot take advantage.
