  3. 'Ding is a match for anybody'published at 21:53 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

I think Ding Jinhui on his best form is a match for anybody in the world. If he's on form it's a headache for the other top players.

What I think is being shown all of a sudden is that it is the people that want it the most that win.

If you think you had to pay the price in the 1980s and 1990s, every part of your game is scrutinised now and I think you have to pay the price even more. The practice table is a massive part of that.

We have broken the century breaks record at this tournament and it just shows how important scoring has become now. You have to score heavy when you get in.

This is almost like a second part of Ding's career. I didn't know if we'd see him winning major titles again, he didn't look happy at the table, he didn't seem to be enjoying the pressure but his performance today was incredible.

"But this week I played so well and beat Ronnie O'Sullivan on the way to the final I started to believe that I could lift the trophy again.

"I thought if I get in I could maybe do it but it's tough to get in when his safety is good as well. I've had a great week. The Barbican has been great, York's been great, the crowd were unreal and I've competed with the best."

Not a flicker of nerves from Ding Junhui, as he get to 48.

The reds are in the open and the pink and black are at his mercy. Another three reds and three colours should do it.
