Brilliant potting from Stephen Maguire. Everything is out in the open for him, but he's cleaning up.

A century could be on the agenda.

No then, what's this? Ding Junhui has missed a relatively easy black to the left bin.

Stephen Maguire is at the table. The reds are split. This is ball-by-ball, frame-by-frame stuff, surely.

He managed it on Saturday John. Not sure he's found quite the same touch today mind.

I just bumped into Stephen Maguire as I was heading back to the commentary box and he said, 'six on the trot, no bother'.

And away we go again. No idea why but does anyone else feel more nervous when you reach the final session?

I mean I'm not playing or anything so it's kind of weird. Can only imagine how Ding Junhui and Stephen Maguire are feeling.

The players are just about to head back out.

If Ding Junhui wins this evening he will go joint-ninth on the list of multiple Triple Crown event winners.

Four victories would put him level with John Spencer, Neil Robertson and Cliff Thorburn.

He'll still be a fair way off this lot though.

Christian: Not many players can live with Ding Junhui when he's in this form. I was shocked to see in the rankings he's all the way down at 16, below Stephen Maguire. In reality he's a top 10 player, maybe top five.

  9. Ding on course for victorypublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Ding 8-4 Maguire

Two more good frames from Ding Junhui and that winners prize will all be his.

Plus of course the prestige of becoming a four-time winner of a Triple Crown event.

China's Ding, has of course won the UK Championship twice before and also won the Masters in 2011.

As I was saying earlier this is the first time that the total prize money at the UK Championship has gone over the £1m mark. So Ding Junhui or Stephen Maguire will have a pretty hefty Bacs transfer coming their way if they win tonight:

    • Winner: £200,000
    • Runner-up: £80,000
    • Semi-finalist: £40,000
    • Highest break: £15,000

As it stands, Barry Hawkins is in line to pocket the £15k highest break prize, after scoring a maximum 147 in the first round against Gerard Greene.

  11. 'Ding on a mission'published at 20:18 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Frame 12: Ding 8-4 Maguire

    John Parrott

That was a very good frame from Ding. After having to watch that fluke from Maguire in the earlier frame, he did very well to close the door and win it.

He's been on a mission this week. He wants to win again, it's been far too long and he has his focus back.

Beating Ronnie O'Sullivan was a massive boost and he hasn't been resting on his laurels even after good results but has been practising hard.

  14. Ding restores four-frame leadpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Frame 12: Ding 8-4 Maguire

Now then can Stephen Maguire get back into this, 12 years after his last final?

It's looking doubtful, he needs snookers and misses a red completely while trying to feather it to safety.

Enough's enough. He concedes. Ding Junhui looks in good shape.

  15. Postpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Frame 12: Ding 7-4 Maguire

Ding Junhui's still in pretty good shape here. The 32-year-old is just doing a touch of mental arithmetic and should know a couple more balls will put him 40 points ahead with 35 left on the table.

The mid-session interval is approaching, is he taking a four-frame lead into it?

  16. Postpublished at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2019

    Frame 12: Ding 7-4 Maguire

Back to the present and Ding Junhui is back on the baize after Stephen Maguire broke down on 27.

There are reds dotted around all over the place here. This is not a bad chance.

There are flukes and then there flukes. Stephen Maguire had an absolute monster fluke. That was unbelievable but then credit to him for going on from there.
