There will be millions of people watching back in China who will know he has a chance at the World Championship coming up.

I was impressed with his temperament, his nerve and that was as mature a performance we've seen from a young player since we saw John Higgins win here.

Phil: We've been waiting about a decade for the big Chinese breakthrough after Ding. Looks like it's finally here. Well played Yan Bingtao.

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

It's an unbelievable achievement for a 20-year-old to come here and win. He was brilliant and from 7-5 behind it's a thoroughly deserved victory.

The last 20-year-old to have such an all-round game like this is John Higgins.

You need talent but his temperament is bullet-proof. To be that age and to be so calm and composed when playing for one of our biggest trophies is magnificent.

Yan Bingtao on BBC Two, via translator: "I am very excited. I have imagined how I would celebrate but I am very calm even though in the last few frames I was not playing very well but I did not give up."

    Higgins 8-10 Yan

John Higgins speaking on BBC Two: "He was fantastic. He has such an incredible all round game. I had chances I should have gone 6-3 in front. I am sick. I should have been in control to go 8-5 in front and I had a couple of chances in the last frame there. I am gutted but every credit to him. Congratulations to Yan.

"It is a great achievement winning it at such a young age. I have played him the last few years. He has not much to learn in the tactical department and he is scoring as well now.

"He is about the same age as my boy. He could be a world champion without a shadow of a doubt so China is very lucky to have Yan."

    Frame 18: Higgins 8-9 Yan

Chance for Yan to the left middle. There's the fist pump. That is that.

What a wonderful performance from the debutant who rounds off by tidying away the colours up to the black.

Fascinating stuff this. Higgins goes close on a couple of occasions to putting Yan in trouble but each time the debutant can see enough of the red to escape.

Henry Cowen: I don’t think this will be the last Sunday evening I spend watching Yan Bintao win a final. May cry when he’s reunited with his girlfriend.

    Frame 18: Higgins 8-9 Yan

Another snooker laid by Higgins but this time Yan gets gets his angles right and swerves out of it.

Yan now gets his own back on his opponent, putting him in a couple of snookers. Higgins can't get the red safe from the second but Yan misses the pot.

It seems we still have a little bit of mileage left in this.

Lovely composure. Yan's break is up to 64. Higgins needs snookers. And three of them just to tie.

    Frame 18: Higgins 8-9 Yan

Is that what pressure does? Yan's in prime position but fluffs an easy one to the bottom left corner.

Higgins springs out of his seat but only makes eight after missing an equally bad ball to the bottom left corner.

Not sure I've ever seen him miss as many balls as this in a final.
