    Frame 16: Higgins 7-8 Yan

This is just sheer determination and guts from Higgins. The break is at 41 and he constantly looks as though he is going to miss.

He needs three reds and three pinks to get level.

    Frame 16: Higgins 7-8 Yan

There's no easy way back to baulk for Higgins so he has to take a very risky pot on.

In it goes but he can't get on a colour so plays safe off the yellow. Yan tries to feather a red down the left but misses leaving a difficult red to the bottom right corner. This will be some shot to hold for the pink.

    How's your bottle?

    Frame 16: Higgins 7-8 Yan

What has Higgins got left? He is looking utterly demoralised at the moment and that will not help.

He's miles off with longish red to the bottom right corner and Yan has a decent chance to get going again.

Thankfully for Higgins he finds himself only five points down before he gets back to the table.

Yan doesn't give off many bad vibes, he just keeps going about his business. His temperament for somebody of 20 and so little experience of a Triple Crown event is outstanding.

But if there's someone you want in your corner in a situation like that, I'll have John Higgins.

    Steve Davis

It was worrying how far Higgins missed the blue ball. It gives your opponent a great boost when that happens.

John will be hoping he hasn't blown his chance at the wrong moment.

There's been a sting in the tail of a lot of the frames but John needs to regroup.

Never write John Higgins off but he is not happy. He is talking to himself at the moment.

John Higgins has been playing at the highest level for so long but he has just got that miss in him now that he would never have missed in his absolute pomp.

    Frame 15: Higgins 7-8 Yan

Yan hit the red and tries to get a snooker in return but no dice. Has he left Higgins a long pot? He has and it is there.

Brilliant. Can he snatch the frame. Brown and blue needed.

Noooooo. He's missed the blue and left it . Yan's going to take the frame.

    Frame 15: Higgins 7-7 Yan

    This is gripping stuff.

Higgins has a glance at the scoreboard and then sees a straightforward black wipe its feet before dropping into the bottom right corner.

He's up to 43 now mind. This is half a chance. Can he get on the final red. No. He brings up his 50 but is out of position on a red to the right middle.

Higgins goes bold and tries to send the pot into the top right corner. He misses but that's a pretty good outcome. The white is in behind the black and the red is hidden by the green.

Some excellent safety play from both players here, which ends when Higgins superbly knocks in a long red.

    That was different gravy.

At last some respite for Higgins. A little mistake from Yan screwing back means he has no pot on. He's got a 55-point lead for his efforts.

Absolutely nothing left on for Higgins.
