Presenter Gary Lineker, whose beloved Leicester City were shock Premier League title winners this year, is gearing up for the show.

"It's always an evening we look forward to with excitement and trepidation. It's seat-of-your-pants TV and the British public seem to enjoy it," he told me.

"I'm slightly biased towards Leicester's magnificence but hopeful they'll be among the awards. I never thought in a million years they would be contenders."

He will be joined by fellow presenters Gabby Logan and Clare Balding, and the trio found time to share a joke during rehearsals...

Sports Personality of the Year 2016

    Ah, awards season. My favourite.

All the glitz, the glamour, the famous faces.

The best dressed, the worst dressed.

The pure unadulterated joy of the winners' faces, the awkward half-smiles-through-gritted teeth from the losers.

Breathe it in, people. Breathe it in. One of the best nights of the year is upon us.
