Darren Thorpe:, external Two zip Federer and Murray has a Swiss Alp to climb!

Dan Hill:, external All credit to Murray, he's been in fine form since his injury. He's just playing against a more experienced player today.

Murray races to the net twice in succession, and is rewarded with two volley winners. A big first serve brings up two game points. The first goes wanting as he tamely dumps a forehand into the net but he is gifted the second as Federer hits his 24th unforced error of the match.

Federer looks serene out there, and moves to 30-0 with his 29th winner of the match - compared to 20 from Murray. The next two points are over in a flash and Federer holds in a game that couldn't have lasted much more than 60 seconds.

Don Wu:, external Federer is oozing confidence, it is amazing. he looks like a reformed man, completely different from Federer'13.

Sunil Ganesh:, external This performance by Fantastic Federer is likely to break the 'back' of regained confidence of Murray post surgery.

Murray races to a 30-0 lead on his serve, but then opens the door and invites Federer in. At 30-30, Federer sends a super forehand down the line to take control of the point and when Murray's backhand breaks down, the Swiss is rewarded with his sixth break point of the match. Murray hangs in there, though, and forces deuce before sending a booming ace down the middle to bring up game point. He takes it, courtesy of a Federer error.

Federer's serve was showing signs of breaking down towards the business end of the second set, but it flashes back into the life at the start of the third to help him win the game to 15. Murray shouts at himself in frustration. The Swiss has yet to face a break point.

George Martin:, external No disrespect to Nadal, Djokovic or Murray - Federer in full flight is still the best player to watch by a million miles.

John Bullock:, external Was hoping Murray would start to find his feet, but looking less and less likely. Sadly, Federer in three. Prove me wrong, Murray!

The Murray serve is under pressure from the off as Federer carves out an opening at 15-30. The Briton then follows a cross court backhand into the net, but it's not deep enough and it's an easy pass for Federer to bring up two breaks points. Murray saves the first - that's the first time he's done that in this match - and then the second as Federer punches a backhand slice long. Deuce.

Federer has another break point, Murray saves it. This time, it's Murray with a game point and he takes it. Good, explosive hitting from the Briton, who is very sensibly steering clear of the Federer forehand, which is working so well, and instead attacking the Swiss' backhand. Battling hold.

  10. GAME AND SECOND SETpublished at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2014

It's a great get from Murray, who scrambles a looping forehand back which lands plump on the line. Federer clearly expected it to go out and can only dink it back. Murray makes no mistake, whipping a forehand across to take the early advantage. But like he has so often done in this match, the Swiss puts the disappointment of that setback behind him to move to 30-15. Hope for Murray, though, as he goes on the attack in the match's longest rally - 27 shots - but Federer soaks up the pressure to win the point. Murray looks broken. Federer seals the game and the set.

Simon.Mirren:, external Federer surely the greatest sixth seed of anything ever.

Jonny Naidoo:, external I hope Federer can't keep going today but as usual Andy can't seem to cope with experience, he needs to stand up and be counted.

Andrew Morris:, external Just waiting for the Murray comeback, this is going to five...

Murray is really struggling to keep up with Federer at the moment. When the rallies stretch out, Murray usually comes out on top, but Federer is smartly not allowing that to happen too often. Murray holds, after coming up with some good first serves for a change, but it was hard work. Federer now has a chance to serve for the second set.

Team Murray, including coach Ivan Lendl, mum Judy, girlfriend Kim Sears and friend Ross Hutchins, are looking particularly glum at the moment as their man is giving them very little to smile about. Once again, Murray manages to give himself a chance at 15-30 on the Federer serve, but the Swiss peels his back off the wall to rattle off the next three points.

"Its actually quite hard to see way back from here for Andy Murray. He can't string enough shots together to break the serve. He's not had one break point in the match and there's not much conviction about the way he's hitting the ball."

Rob Jones: As a Federer fan, I'm loving not only the tennis, but that he's at last shutting the doubters up. He's on the wane sure, but his time's not over. This is great stuff!

Michael McConaughey: This is a new Federer. Andy needs to find his rhythm if he's going to make any chance for himself. He needs to be able to compete at this level if he's going to get more Grand Slams. Would love to see Andy win but I'm also a fan of Federer and to see him play so good is great. Hope for a good close match up...

Murray is throwing everything at Federer, but the Swiss is in the zone. He hits a stunning touch volley on the stretch off a Murray forehand which oozes venom to take 15-30. However, Murray scrambles the next two points and follows with an ace - there haven't been enough of those in this match - to seal the game. Important hold for the Scot.

James:, external High time that ball boys/girls having to double up as towel maids is banned. It's a joke. Players take a break every two games!

David Wyatt:, external Andy needs to hang in there until Federer drops a level - if Andy can take the game to four or five sets he will win (big if tho).

"Roger has a new racquet and shoes. Racquets are huge for tennis players. It takes you four to five months to get used to a new one. He used to play with a small head and now he plays with a bigger one so it's a huge change for him. The ball goes faster so you need more control and have to compensate. He is going to take time but I think it's a good move for him."

Murray is in desperate need of answers here. The Scot removes his baseball cap - will that make the difference? The early signs are not good as Federer's first serve continues to motor and he eases to a 40-15 lead. Murray conjures up a delicious lob to reduce the deficit - and then surprisingly finds himself at deuce as Federer sends a backhand slice wide. But the Swiss collects himself, sticks to his attacking gameplan and closes out the game.
