As this picture shows, Rafael Nadal was pretty happy with his afternoon's work. There were signs that the Spaniard was going to get booted out before the third round for the third straight year after Lukas Rosol won the first set and went a break up in the second, but the two-time Wimbledon champion fought back to live another day.

There were also wins for former champions Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova plus star of the future Nick Kyrgios, 19, who saved nine match points - a record for the men's draw - to defeat 13th seed Richard Gasquet. But it was defeat for Britain's Heather Watson.

It's been quite a day. Can't wait to do it all over again tomorrow. Until then, it's goodnight from me.

If you've got some time to kill this evening, I'd heartily recommend navigating around the highlights tab above which has all of the best clips of the day, including Gael Monfil's "genius" winner. Trust me, it's worth watching.

  3. Friday's order of playpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Novak Djokovic and Gilles Simon are first on Centre Court tomorrow, with the battle of the former champions Petra Kvitova v Venus Williams, next up. Then it's Andy Murray time as the defending champion takes on Roberto Bautista Agut.

On Court One, Li Na opens against Barbora Zahlavova Strycova with Queen's Club champion Grigor Dimitrov and Alexandr Dolgopolov with Marin Cilic and Tomas Berdych closing it out.

Maria Sharapova is asked the obligatory World Cup question. "I'm kind of supporting a lot of countries because my team is from all over the world.

"On any given day, sometimes I have to pretend like I'm supporting them just to be nice. They usually know when I'm faking it."

"That was gladiatorial from Federer. I'm lost for words on that service display. It was truly superb. That is some of the best tennis we have seen from him in the last five years.

"He has served notice to the rest of the draw. A real treat to watch. Even if he gets close to that service display Nadal would have big problems with that in should they meet in the semi-final."

John McEnerney:, external Fed showing signs of old but it was easy enough, he needs a sterner test where he has to do more than just serve really well.

Rich:, external Nothing would please me more than a Federer renaissance this year but despite this straightforward passage some signs are a worry.

Roger Federer: "It's only been my second match, and it was totally different to the first one, a big leftie coming to the net.

"It was a serving contest and I am happy I made it because it was tough with the rain delay. It's nice to make aces, good for the confidence but I have got to keep working hard to keep the consistency."

On his slip close to the net, he said: "Everything was OK, I didn't think I was going to go down, it is slippery coming forward where the grass is so green but no problem.

And on winning quickly, he added: "I don't take much time, I don't see any point whatsoever in taking more than 10 seconds between points. I think it's very important for the spectators to keep it moving along."

Canada's rising star Eugenie Bouchard enjoyed the following of a vociferous 'Genie Army' in Australia earlier this year, but she is enjoying a quieter life at Wimbledon.

"I think it's good to appreciate the difference," she says. "At Wimbledon they're very polite. I don't know, they respect the sport of tennis so much. It's very classy. I think it's a nice change."

"A grandstand finish from Roger Federer. Easy as you like. A sensational service display. Do not discount him. Bigger challenges lie in wait but so far it has been very impressive from the Swiss master."

Muller didn't have a single break point in that match while Federer converted four of his six. The Swiss also made just FIVE unforced errors to his opponent's 22. He also topped the winners tally with 44 to 30.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

"Very impressive from Federer, 25 aces in three relatively short sets, 77% first serves, only dropped nine points on serve. When I see him play tennis like that I really do believe he has a chance in this tournament of going all the way."

  15. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Federer races through his service game in less than a minute to seal a comfortable straight sets victory over Muller and book his place in the third round. The Swiss will next be in action on Saturday against either 30th seed Marcel Granollers or Santiago Giraldo.

  16. Postpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Muller puts away a forehand volley to clinch the game to 30, but Federer will now have a chance to serve for the match.

    Jeremy Bates
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Wimbledon is the Grand Slam that Federer will feel he still has an opportunity to win. It's his most successful slam and the one physically which will take the least out of him. He is serving brilliantly. He is trying to finish points as quickly as possible. He is so aggressive."

  18. Postpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

"Just sublime serving, it really is," says former British number one Tim Henman on BBC TV and I can't disagree. Federer, in full flow, is a tough nut to crack. The Swiss eases through another service game and Muller will now have to serve to stay in the set.
