"There were so many positives for Heather. She wasn't in it mentally at the start but then she got engaged and you could see the response from the crowd. She can leave the court with her head held high. She has a big heart, she is such a fighter."

  10. Latest scorespublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Sharapova 6-2 1-0 Bacsinszky: Sharapova on cruise control out on Court One. The break is already tied down in the second set and that might be the last that Timea Bacsinszky sees of her.

Janowicz 1-1 Hewitt: This has all the hallmarks of a late-evening ding-donger. I reckon if you have a ticket for tomorrow there might be some leftovers for you.

Isner 7-6 (19-17) 7-6 (7-3) 1-1 Nieminen: This is not one for the faint-hearted. John Isner ties down the second set in a second successive tie-break.

    Vekic 4-6 Zvonareva

  11. Reactionpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Angelique Kerber, who beat Heather Watson in three sets: "It was a really tough match Heather is a great, talented player and I am really happy I won. I was trying to be aggressive and focus on the moment. Heather has a very good future and I wish her all the best, she is a great player and a great personality."

    Nick Bollettieri
American tennis coach on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"This will not just go down as a pure defeat for Heather. She won respect in the way she came back in the second set. It was so important for her to win that. It showed positive signs. She gave the third away to some extent but if she had lost in straight sets it would have hurt her."

    Lindsay Davenport
1999 Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

"Very experienced and consistent performance from Angelique Kerber. Watson doing such a great job pulling out that second set but she ran out of steam and just wasn't able to continue it. Kerber just proved to be a little bit too consistent for Heather Watson."

  14. Postpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Centre Court gives Watson and Kerber a standing ovation as they head off court and both stop to sign a few autographs.

Watson is going down fighting, the Briton wrapping a backhand back into court to bring up game point. She tries to do the same on the forehand side in the next, but that goes sailing into the tramlines.

Deuce then match point Kerber, but she pulls a forehand wide. Deuce again before Kerber creates her second match point. Watson keeps battling and we're back to deuce. A third match point then goes wanting. But the German won't be denied on the fourth as Watson dumps a backhand into the net.

  16. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Eugenie Bouchard against Andrea Petkovic? That sounds like it will take some beating as a third-round match-up.

It is on the cards after Bouchard completed a quietly efficient win over Silvia Soler-Espinosa and 20th seed Petkovic put away Irina-Camelia Begu.

  17. Postpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Lindsay Davenport
1999 Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

"Kerber got tight in the second set trying to close it out and if you're Watson you want to keep that in your mind."

  18. Postpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

The wheels have come off the Watson bandwagon and it looks all but over as Kerber holds to love. The Briton's unforced error is out of control.

  19. Postpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Nick Bollettieri
American tennis coach on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"The sad thing is Kerber showed signs of perhaps her back hurting, walking gingerly. You just can't make these sorts of unforced errors."
