"Maria, I've just met a girl called Maria."

I'm not sure if Timea Bacsinszky is a fan of West Side Story, but her encounter with Sharapova look like it is going to be a brief one.

The Swiss qualifier is staring down the barrel. 5-1 down, Sharapova to serve, 23 minutes gone.

  4. Watson breakspublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

A glimpse of an opening for Watson as Kerber sends a wild smash out of court to bring up 0-30. Watson then scrambles to reach a forehand and somehow sends it back so much pace that Kerber can't get enough on the ball. Break point. And Watson takes it! The start of the fight back perhaps.

Andy Murray and Hacker T Dog

As well as a 12-stream all-you-can-eat video buffet at the top of this page, some of the day's finest cuts have been served up on the BBC Tennis page.

Somebody in the BBC's esteemed audio-visual team has dug out a slice of Reading's fine turn-of-the-decade dunce punksters Does It Offend You Yeah? to accompany Serena Williams five best points in beating Chanelle Scheepers.

Maybe Gael Monfils's framed return that nearly knocked out the net-post ball-boy might tickle your fancy.

  6. Kerber breakspublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Kerber screeches "Come on" as she wins the opening point on the Watson serve. It looks like the German has her groove back as she wins two of the next three to bring up a couple of break points.

The first goes wanting as Kerber hits long but she makes no mistake on the second. It's a long way back for Watson now.

Watson punishes a weak second serve but it's a rare high point in a relatively straight forward service game for Kerber who consolidates the break. The British number one must hold in the next game or this set and match could disappear in a flash.

A lovely touch volley from Watson brings up set point. Kerber saves it but is soon facing another. Again she saves it but back comes Watson for a third set point. Watson returns and Kerber nets!
