Mike Wills:, external Rosol building my hopes up, and Nadal tearing them down and stomping on them in his usual manner. Can't see a Rosol victory now.

Bekah Coomber:, external Great play from Rosol and Rafa. Makes for a much more interesting match than Murray's annihilation of Rola yesterday.

    Pat Cash
1987 Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

"I think he over thought the serve for the double-fault. He stood wide to try to get Nadal to think he was going wide instead of going back to his regulation position for second serve, then he ends up serving a double fault. Rafa just kept the pressure on. A bit of luck mixed with some good play from the Spaniard."

"Rafa was getting beaten very convincingly 6-4 4-2 - the guy was down - and that's why he is so great. There are the old sayings like 'the dark is before the dawn' and somehow he gets it back. You begin to realise how important the head is."

James Rowbottom:, external When Nadal is under pressure he grabs himself like an odd version of 'heads, shoulders, knees and toes'.

Impressive so far from Ana Ivanovic. The former world number one is disposing of Jie Zheng in comfortable fashion. She could play Sabine Lisicki in the next round which would be doozy of match.

  7. GAME AND SECOND SETpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Rosol now set point down, but he's on his own serve. First one long. Second one - no no, he's double-faulted! Nadal pumps that fist, and why not - he was a break down in this set, and a break down in the tie-break, but he's fought his way to parity. Is the match now his to seize?

  8. Tie-break updatepublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Rosol lucky - net cord flick, Nadal reaching, dropping backhand, Rosol in no-man's land, feeble half-volley into the net. Ace, set point. Nadal serves out wide, here's the return, forehand down the wide-open line. 6-6, splendid contest.

  9. Tie-break updatepublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Nadal's hands to his head as he biffs a forehand long. He won't like this either - short slices, and Rosol clatters another forehand winner away. He nets another, but he'll have two serves for a two-set lead...

  10. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Nadal could come back from two sets to love but it is a whole lot tougher to beat Nadal from one set all. That is why this is so important for Rosol."

    Gael MonfilsImage source, AFP

BBC Sport's Ronald McIntosh: "What a turnaround from Gael Monfils. He was two sets down and in a bad place mentally but once he staved off two opportunities to go two breaks down in the third set, he has been a different player. He has battled and competed and fought for everything."

  12. Tie-break updatepublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Going with serve after three points, but that only tells a fraction of the story - sensational running forehand winner from Rosol. He duffs a backhand into the net after a long exchange from the baseline, and then has another chance with a forehand off a second serve, only to tug it into the net again. Pummelling forehand this time, 3-3.

  13. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Here we go. Nadal a few blades of grass long with a lob, but into a net-cord dropper to pummel away a winner for 30-30. Oh, lovely down the line from Rosol, and he's wriggled off the hook again - we're into a tie-breaker...

  14. Postpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Over on Court One, Stan Wawrinka is knocking up with world number 47 Yen-Hsun Lun.

Wawrinka has not won back-to-back matches at Wimbledon since 2009. He is a different animal in 2014 though. At least that is what we thought after his breakthrough Grand Slam in Melbourne in January.

His first round defeat at Roland Garros made some think otherwise.

  15. Postpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Nadal unmistakably more settled now, his own serve purring, his movement better - into the net, silky volley finish, Rosol starting to miss with those wild swings. Pivotal game coming up - expect Rafa to pile every sort of pressure onto his opponent's serve.

  16. Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Even Rosol's ground strokes feel like they are jumping off the court. He is making Nadal seem small-ish and how hard is that to do? Rafa is trying to tell himself Rosol can't keep it up - even though he finished him in that match two years ago."

Count the Olympic gold medals in that handshake. Stirring. Rosol's serve appears to be over that brief but critical stutter, and he barrels his way through to parity. Who would you fancy in a 'breaker?

  18. Postpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Miles Maclagan
Former coach to Andy Murray and Laura Robson on BBC Radio 5 live

"Rosol has just come off the gas a bit. It is big hitting but it is not quite the same. Rosol had a couple of half chances but he hesitated. A really tough game from Nadal. A huge fist-pump upon breaking to let his opponent know he is far from done."

  19. Postpublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

The Centre Court crowd now back with Rafa - they want drama, don't get me wrong, but they also don't want their favourite character bumped off before Act One has come to an end. Nadal holds again, and suddenly the pressure is on Rosol: can he hold himself to stay in this second set?

    Serena WilliamsImage source, Reuters

Serene from Serena - the number one seed despatches South African world number 94 Chanelle Scheepers in just in 49 minutes, less time than it takes to watch an episode of Breaking Bad. And breaks tell the tale, in a way - Williams converted 71% of the opportunities she fashioned, whereas Scheepers created not a single chance to bite back on the Serena serve.
