Rosol only has one way to play - climb into every thing, marmalise it and hope for the best. It might only be one way, but it's working a treat once again. Nadal under pressure on his serve once again - he'll wriggle free this time, but the robot has been reanimated, and it's coming after him again...

Jiri Vesely has taken 24th seed Gael Monfils to four sets on court 12, and during the match he has struck the fastest serve of these championships so far - 143mph or 230.1 kmph in new money. Blimey.

"I've just arrived on Court One where Serena Williams is looking ominously imperious as she breezes through the first set 6-1 against Chanelle Scheepers and then takes a 3-0 lead in the second.

"Meanwhile a TV screen in the commentary box shows Maria Sharapova warming up on the practice courts by hurling a medicine ball to and fro with her coach. She'll need all the muscle power she can generate if she crosses paths with Serena next week."

Freddie Clamp:, external Rosol looks a little more composed than he did last year, which, arguably, could work against him.

Sophie:, external Yes, I HAVE timed my lunch in order to watch the Nadal-Rosol match.

  5. GAME AND FIRST SETpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Here we go. Ace. Wallop. Massive forehand. Ace. Triple set point. Massive serve. Set. Wake up, Rafa, the nightmare's happening again...

Steady Eddie stuff from Serena, who churned out a straightforward 6-1 first set win on Court One and has won a massive 85% of points on his first serve to sheepish Scheepers' 40%.

Williams has actually landed fewer of her first serves than her opponent, but it's a statistical flaw that frankly doesn't matter if she continues this steamroller showing.

My giddy aunts - teetering at 15-30, having just survived a marginal call on the baseline, Nadal double-faults to offer up the first two break points of the contest. Mmm, sweet opened-out forehand to save one, second serve on the second - oh, Rosol could have attacked that, but he chose to defend, and Rafa slashes another forehand into his backhand corner. Great return this time, third break point. Nadal onto his forehand - ach, horrible mis-hit, into the net, Rosol with the break. Gasps around Centre - it couldn't be happening again, could it?

Gael Monfils lives to fight another set at least.

The Frenchman sweeps the third-set tie-break.

His opponent Jiri Vasely is a formker Australian Open junior champion by the way. Not as much cop on grass though.

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Rafa doesn't want to allow Rosol to not have much stress. It is unlike Nadal to lose a game in a minute. Usually he figures out a way to make him move."

  10. Postpublished at 13:40 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Impregnable serving from the long-limbed Czech, a blizzard of aces and howitzer unreturnables. And here is the problem for Nadal - if he can't get a toe in Rosol's serve, any tie-break could once again become nightmarish.

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Serena's coach Patrick Mouratoglou has definitely cleaned up her technique, fitness and footwork and technique. She has been able to put a lot more spin on the ball which gives you that margin of safety.

"That enables you to stay in the rallies longer and has made her more dangerous because she does not have to play as many high risk shots."

  12. First set to Serena Williamspublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Jeepers Scheepers.

South African Chanelle Scheepers is getting the Serena Williams special out on Court One.

27 points to 12, 25 minutes on the clock and the first set down the gurgler.

  13. Postpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Rosol is imposing himself on Nadal, credit him for that. You can see why he is so difficult an opponent, he's got some major firepower."

  14. Postpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Early stages, of course, but Nadal is already moving far better on grass than he did in either of the last two years. Quick feet to dance around a forehand, quicker again to sprint in and across to pull a forehand cross-court for the game.

  15. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Rosol crashed out in the first round of both the Aussie Open this year (to Tommy Robredo) and the French Open (Jiri Vesely, his fellow Czech who is currently mangling Gael Monfils out on court 12. He lost in the first round here last year, too, but he's managing to tap into the spirit of 2012 so far - solid serving, flashing forehand drives.

Men's 24th seed Gael Monfils is up against it on court 12. It's a set all and he's tied down in the third against Jiri Vesely, and the key to his stuttering showing may lie in the points he's won on his first serve.

He's hit a dozen aces, twice as many as his opponent, but has won just 79% of points on his first serve to Vesely's impressive 87%. Fix that, and Monfils could start turning the tide.

Men's 10 seed Kei Nishikori is safely through to the third round, brushing aside American Denis Kudla in straight sets: 6-3 6-2 6-1.

He hit twice as many aces as his opponent, landed a higher percentage of his first serves and hit a whopping 43 winners to Kudla's lowly 15.

    Comprehensive from Kei.

  18. Postpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

Rosol far from intimidated by either occasion or opponent, and why would he be? That's a lovely forehand drive, but that's an even better pick-up from Rafa, flicking the ball off his shoelaces and onto the baseline with muscular wristiness. Sweet passing shot, match heating up a treat.

Sir Steve Redgrave in the Royal Box today, as well as Jonathan Edwards and Denise Lewis. And that looks very much like Pippa Middleton, perhaps offering around some of her priceless tips on how to organise a party. Nadal starting to purr, but Rosol far from intimidated - sweet forehand into the wide open spaces set up by his big serve.
