"Also down to splat the fuzz on the practice courts is Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios. His hitting partner is having a nervy morning though, all apologies as he bullets a ball at his boss's head after cracking the previous one into the net cord."

    Practice courts

"A nod, a wink and the right handshake with the right man gets you deep in to practice courts, a peaceful area away from the masses that must huddle in the distance. Here, you could be at your local (albeit rather posh) club, with only the sound of a brass band playing the theme from Grandstand serving as a reminder that you're somewhere special."

"Maria Sharapova emerges from the underground tunnel leading to the outdoor practice courts, earphones firmly wedged in to block out the high-decibel cries of the fans. Boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov is coming in the opposite direction, but if there is an acknowledgement between the two it is brief. It is straight down to business with the 2004 champion getting a rub-down on the shoulder she had surgery on a couple of years back, stretching some physio bands with her fitness guy."

When the gates are opened to the public, you won't see anyone running to get their seats on one of the outside courts - where it's free seating. That would be a health and safety nightmare. Instead, punters are walked into the grounds at a gentle pace by a line of security guard.

"Today is always the most magical day because normally we have all of the fourth round games but even though we don't have everyone in action, it is still a wonderful Magic Monday.

"Novak Djokovic will have his hands full with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He knows his way around a grass court and can be dangerous. Novak has won the last 10 meetings but if Jo-Wilfried is on song, Novak needs to beware."

Djokovic v Tsonga is the third match on Centre Court.

    Andy Murray

"Andy Murray flops to the floor as his session comes to an end and seems pretty happy with his morning's work, certainly judging by his ribbing of Dani Vallverdu whose serve is picked apart verbally, after it has been dissected on court.

"It is noticeable how much Murray is his own boss now, confidently calling the drills and leading the post-practice discussion."

"Madison Keys won her first title in Eastbourne and we have been predicting big things for her with her big serve and forehand. It is very disappointing but I think she will be positive with what she has achieved in her grass court season."

Keys pulled out of the tournament this morning with a left thigh injury.

Strolling through Wimbledon Park on Sunday afternoon, when there is traditionally no play at Wimbledon, there were four rows of tents full of people hoping to get tickets for Centre Court to see Andy Murray in action on Monday.

And before it tipped down with rain, there was a great atmosphere with games of football, bat and ball, mini tennis - with mini net, swing-ball and volleyball going on.

    Andy Murray

"It looks like Andy Murray wants his own serve locked down tight against the bazooka tee-off of Kevin Anderson. He reels off a barrage of serves, all looking pretty peppy and accurate, the roles are reversed.

"Dani Vallverdu steps a good five feet inside the baseline to crack down some service fire at close to Anderson pace. Murray blocks and fends for his life, landing the vast majority in play.

"Then a change-up. Murray starts ordering the serves, 'wide', 'line' or 'anywhere', occasionally pushing Vallverdu back to replicate a second serve."

    Andy Murray

"Gridlock on the way to work? Boss getting on your nerves? At least if you are Andy Murray you get to burn off your frustrations by slamming some heavy overhead smashes away.

"Hitting partner/coach Dani Vallverdu has got the job of scampering around and patting the ball back up into the air for another pounding."

  19. Stars of the futurepublished at 11:26 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

There are lots of juniors in action today, with play for those matches having already got under way.

"One thing I love about week two is walking around the outside courts and watching the juniors play," says BBC commentator Andrew Castle. "I can't get enough of that.

"I remember watching Eugenie Bouchard two years ago from the early rounds when she won the juniors and this year I'm looking forward to seeing Stefan Kozlov, the American who all the agents are sniffing around."
