Afternoon - Fordyce with you for the Roger Federer v Paulo Lorenzi first-round clash on Court no.1. Henson will be keeping you across all other matches, which strikes me as both slightly heroic and somewhat unfair.

Sabine Lisicki has made early inroads into Julia Glushko's serve on Centre Court, breaking for a 2-0 lead.

Glushhko has never beaten a player in the top 40 so it will be a shock if she can shove a spanner in the spokes of world number 19 Lisicki.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

"A swift exit for Melzer but he put up a good fight. Tsonga will be delighted to finish that off with four quick points because, to be honest, in the match he was pretty ordinary. He was up and down, not hitting the ball particularly well, but he is through."

  4. Tsonga into the second roundpublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 24 June 2014

That is a short day's work for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Frankly it was hardly worth getting changed into his shorts.

He wallops off the final service game to love, four straight points to put his match against Jurgen Melzer to bed.

Melzer had been moaning about the light yesterday and managed to get the match held over for the night. No sign of any jitters from the big Frenchman though.

Tsonga to play Sam Querrey or Bradley Klahn, both American, in the second round.

Forget a new coach, Andy Murray needs to employ his own ball picker-upper.

Japan's Kei Nishikori has signed for the second set against France's Kenny de Schepper, leading 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 1-1.

Jerzy Janowicz does not look like the 21st century Michael Stich he was doing an impression of last year at Wimbledon. The Pole has bagged the second set but is a double break down to Somdev Devvarman trailing 6-4 3-6 3-0.

Lleyton Hewitt is serving up the usual helping of grit and dog on Court Three. He leads Michal Przysieny 6-2 6-6.

The coin toss ahead of Sabine Lisicki's match on Centre Court will also be the chance for the Wimbledon crowd to celebrate the life of Elena Baltacha.

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC TV

"Stan Wawrinka is putting in some big serves against Joao Sousa. While the top players can find a way to get the ball back low, Sousa isn't doing enough with the returns and there are some easy put-aways for Wawrinka.

"A few times Wawrinka has been getting on his own case, he is winning comfortably but he isn't feeling the ball right and is not totally happy. Players know when they are playing the ball well and I don't think he feels that at the moment."

    Stanislas WawrinkaImage source, PA

"Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka's sublime single-handed backhand is giving Joao Sousa all sorts of problems in their first round encounter on court two.

"The grass courts of Wimbledon haven't been a happy hunting ground for the Swiss number one in recent years with the 29-year-old losing at this stage in each of the last two years.

"But today, in the lunchtime sunshine, Wawrinka is in sparkling form and leads 6-3 4-3 with a break in the second. Sousa, with his baseball cap back to front, is doing all the running as he struggles to deal with the Swiss' power and accuracy."

    Marion Bartoli
2013 Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

"It is absolutely an honour to be here again with so many amazing memories in my mind. I will break into tears when I walk onto court. For every tennis player it is their dream to win Wimbledon.

"It took me about a month for me to realise that I had become Wimbledon champion. Now whenever I need a boost in my life I look back at the game and it puts a smile on my face."

Just as men's defending champion Andy Murray kicked off Monday's play on Centre Court, it was usually be Marion Bartoli's honour as women's champion on Tuesday.

The Frenchwoman bowed out of tennis in August however and is here on BBC punditry duties instead.

She will however come out on Centre Court to toss the coin before Sabine Liskicki, last year's runner up takes on Julia Glushko.

    Plaque at Wimbledon

Remember this? A plaque outside Court 18 remembers the longest match in tennis history between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut in 2010. Isner prevailed in 11 hours, 5 mins, but was unsurprisingly thrashed in the next round. Seeded 9 this year, Isner takes on Britain's Daniel Smethurst on Court 3 later on.
