Murray's ladyfriend Kim Sears a study in concentration as the home hero wobbles fractionally for the first time at 30-30 on his own serve. Fractionally being the key word - 127 mph ace down the middle, 128 mph boomer out wide that BA can only frame into the slips.

Chances again for Murray on the faltering Bust A Gut serve. The Spaniard pushes a forehand wide and then tugs another too far the other way to ship another break point, and then Murray slices him to pieces with a cruel succession of backhands that drive Bautista Agut to distraction. Break taken, job done.

"Agut's backhand is certainly unusual because he gets so little spin on it. I don't think it's as good but it's a little like Connors in the way it is so flat."

Rattling hold from Murray, moving smoothly, entirely at ease on this arena that he knows so well. 15 matches unbeaten on it and counting, if you include the 2012 Olympics. Which of course we will.

Roberto Bautista Agut steadies the ships, holding serve with a neat volley that is beyond the defending champ's forehand reach.

  7. GAME AND FIRST SETpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

Murray yet to lose a single point on his first serve, and that eliminates any slim chance his bemused opponent has of a first-set fightback. Less than half an hour gone, and the champ is on the march.

"It's not easy for Bautista Agut because his natural game is to be solid from the baseline but Murray moves too well. Unless he can start serving at about 135mph I think he is going to struggle."

Bust A Gut's serve certainly in no danger of busting the artificial gut on his racquet - that's powderpuff stuff, and Murray will climb into the returns - mmm, sweet backhand drive cross-court, and he's pouched a second break. Textbook.

A bit of a rejig on the order of play...

Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic are going to rage against the dying light on court three where a spare slot has opened up. They were due to go out on Court One.

That will instead be the scene of Heather Watson and Ross Hutchins' doubles match against Mikhail Elgin and Anastasia Rodionova.

You can watch both matches on the Live Coverage section on this page.

Groans from the crowd as Murray's dash to the net to pop away a drop-shot is neutered by a cruel net-cord. Karma comes quickly - a net-cord helps him out a point later, and the patriots all around Centre chuckle with satisfaction. Already typing 'Roberto Bautista Agut' is beginning to tire the fingertips - shall we switch to Bobby Bust A Gut?

"You wouldn't teach a junior to do a slower second serve, but Murray is such a good returner that changing the rhythm and bringing Agut into the net works for him."

There you go - Gervais, very much in the casual end of smart-casual. Bautista Agut no mug - he's actually won more matches on grass this year than the reigning champion, although Murray has never lost to a player seeded as low as 27 at these championships.

While little brother Andy does his title-defending thing out on Centre Court, Jamie Murray is getting stuck into the men's doubles on court two.

He, along with Australia's John Peers, are a set up on British veteran Jamie Delgado and Gilles Mueller.

Jamie Murray beat Andy to a Wimbledon title when his flirty partnership with Jelena Jankovic brought home the mixed doubles in 2007. Only right as the older sibling...

Shadow covering all but a small quarter of court in front of the VIP seats, where I believe Ricky Gervais is sitting. Be disappointing if Gervais is supporting the Spaniard, so we'll assume he's been invited by the Murray camp. Murray timing those languorous backhands, moving with easy grace, backing up that break with solid serving.

  16. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

Signed, sealed, delivered. Grigor Dimitrov, seeded 11th, books in for a fourth round meeting with Leonardo Mayer.

Tip of the hat to Alexandr Dolgopolov though who pushed the Bulgarian hard before coming off the boil in the decider.

    Pat Cash

(On Murray's opponent Agut) "He doesn't play like a typical Spaniard which is lots of top spin but he can run very hard, which I suppose IS like a typical Spaniard."

  18. Postpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

Hello? Hello? Yup, seems to be working. And with the departure of Henson and my own arrival, Murray suddenly finds his groove. Wonderful stretching forehand on the sprint that he not only reaches but manages to conjure cross-court past a stunned B-A, and he has break points - Bautista Agut into the net with a panicked backhand, and we have our first break of the evening.

"A lot of talk today about the weather, I didn't think Murray would have to deal with the sunlight. It's not easy in that south east corner of centre court as the evening draws in and the sun gets a bit lower."
