Stanislas Wawrinka sees off Feliciano Lopez, the Eastbourne winner, to set up a quarter-final with his Swiss compatriot Roger Federer. It will be Wawrinka's first quarter-final here at Wimbledon - in his 10th appearance at the All England Club. Can he add Wimbledon to his Australian Open title? Roger's going to have a big say in that...

Angelique Kerber has the pedal pressed to the metal. Her serve looks bullet-proof as she bullies the Maria Sharapova backhand once more.

Sharapova needs to pull back on the joystick and fast. Her Wimbledon 2014 campaign is in a tailspin. If she is a goner, that really opens up the draw. A way to go yet though...

  4. Kerber breakspublished at 15:04 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Maria Sharapova gets a little over-eager behind her first serve, coming in and then having to back-pedal fast and unsuccessfully to offer up 30-30.

The Russian slumps forward as she drags a backhand wide. She took that like a punch to the solar plexus, finally looking up with puppy dog eyes to her camp in the players' box.

The crowd are with her opponent as well, roaring with delight, along with Kerber herself, as the German puts away a cute forehand to move a break up.

    What have you got Maria?

  5. Federer reactionpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Roger Federer on the prospect of facing fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarter-finals:

"I feel my game is there and I want to keep it up with no hiccups. It's about being focused and staying healthy. You are only in the quarter-finals and that is when the tournament really starts.

"For a small country we are doing well in sporting teams. Hopefully our football team can beat Argentina later and it would be amazing to play Stan Wawrinka in the quarter-finals here because things like that don't happen too often in Swiss sport."

So, a straight one-set shoot-out. Place your bets now.

The odds on Angelique Kerber drop as the German plays out a game to love, hitting with fresh vigour as Maria Sharapova comes off the boil slightly.

"That was virtually flawless by Federer. He did everything well - he timed the ball well, served impeccably, came to the net, chipped and charged and showed a lot out there.

"Is he now ready to be a challenger for these championships? Maybe."

  8. Federer reactionpublished at 14:57 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Roger Federer on beating Tommy Robredo to make the quarter-finals:

"I'm very happy I was able to start strong and keep the momentum to the end. It was tough to serve it out because Tommy was playing better as the match went on so I am pleased to win in straight sets.

"I'm pleased with the first week and now we are closer to the finish and it is nice. I am serving and moving well and all the things are happening that need to be happening to go deep in the tournament."

  9. Sharapova v Kerberpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

    Laura Robson
Injured British number two on BBC Radio 5 live

"Angelique is making a lot more unforced errors than in the first set. Maria looks more confident, she looks like she knows what she wants to do, she's keeping the points shorter, and Angelique is running around a lot more. I think it is going to go Maria's way."

  10. GAME AND SECOND SETpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Maria Sharapova walks back to the baseline in that stiff pigeon-stepped way she does, eyes focused on the court surface a couple of feet ahead, with two set points to toy with.

A big angled forehand helped her into that position as Angelique Kerber played it too safe in a previous rally. The German will regret being too conservative when she had a play on the ball. She hardly saw the final serve that seals the set.

Angelique Kerber holds to love. She is staring right down the barrel and is still in the hunt for this set. Sharapova to serve for the set next though.

  12. Federer into quarter-finalspublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

    Goran Ivanisevic
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

"Federer can definitely reach the final, then you never know, but there could be a big Swiss championship game tomorrow, probably on Centre Court. Federer moves better than Wawrinka, so I'd go for him."

  13. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

This is heading into the dark and dangerous places where Maria Sharapova does her best work. She came back from a set down on several occasions on her way to the French Open. She has the bit between her teeth now.

"Roger Federer wins his first match of the second week without having to remove his blazer. Tommy Robredo was a spectator for the first two sets but improved in the third, even forcing break point when Federer served for the match.

"Overall, though, Federer has put on an impressive show and, if he continues like this, will take some stopping. He faces Stan Wawrinka or Feliciano Lopez in the last eight."

  15. Sharapova breakspublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Napkin tucked in under the chin, knife and fork drawn, Maria Sharapova tucks into the Angelique Kerber second serve with relish. A crushed forehand winner that streaks down the line and away for a winner almost before the German is back on terra firma.

Two break points and the first is made to stick with a glorious angled shot that Kerber could only look on and admire.

Did the earth move for you? Is that the momentum shift in this match?

Cliff Richard sporting a very summery number up in the Royal Box, white crumpled linen and a rose in the button hole.

No room for such delicate flowers down on the court surface. A bullish service game from Maria Sharapova who bludgeons her way back to parity on the scoreboard.

  17. GAME AND SECOND SETpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Another tie-break and another set for Stanislas Wawrinka on court two. The Swiss has smashed down 21 aces to nine by Lopez and has a fastest serve of 134mph. He's one set away from the last eight.

  18. Postpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Angelique Kerber rattles through a swift and solid hold of serve to keep the train on the tracks, heading towards the business-end of the set and a very possible tie-break.

  19. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

    Peter Fleming

"Roger knows his remit here - get out there, do your job and get it done quickly because you have to play again tomorrow - and he is following the script to the tee."

  20. Latest scorepublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

BBC Sport's Stephan Shemilt on Court One

"As if to say 'I've had enough now' Federer breaks in the seventh game to move two games away from the last eight. This one is as good as done."
