Novak Djokovic on BBC TV: "Ideally, I could have had a couple of official grass matches coming into Wimbledon to help me make that adjustment from the clay. But I thought it was more necessary for me to rest and recover and come back motivated to start all over again, and to be in the right state of mind for Wimbledon.

"Confidence is a very tricky thing, you have to work a lot of time to earn it and it's very easy to lose it. But I don't think I'm any less confident than I was a Roland Garros.

"I'm looking forward to going on there and competing. No doubt the loss in the French Open final has hurt me, and for some time there will be traces of that left in me, but I have to make sure I don't show that on the surface and take on the challenges ahead of me."

Afternoon, and welcome to Centre Court - Fordyce here, and rather more importantly, so too will be defending men's singles champion Novak Djokovic and his first-round opponent, the idiosyncratically spelled German Philipp Kohlschreiber. Shall we?

    A view of the grounds

"The crowd inside court 18 has thinned out a little after British wildcard Liam Broady lost the opening set, with a slither of the Wimbledon-green seats now peeking out behind where the 22-year-old is about to serve. Perhaps they've headed for a posh sandwich or an early Pimms.

"Those still enjoying the tennis saw Broady fail to take two break points in the second game before both men continue to protect their serves."

Still all steady and on serve in the second set on court 18, with Liam Broady going toe-to-toe with Marinko Matosevic in front of a supportive home crowd.

No margin for error as they tip-toe to 4-4. A crucial set to win.

Victoria Azarenka, ranked 24th in the world as she continues her comeback from injury, is through to the second round in a hurry.

She has walloped Estonia's Anett Kontaveit 6-2 6-1. She will play Ana Ivanovic in the last 16 if they make it that far.

    Murray and Mauresmo

"Great serve" yells Amelie Mauresmo as Andy Murray fires down another ace. Then "that's great Andy" as he puts away a forehand winner.

"There has been plenty of that kind of chat from the Frenchwoman... I've not been keeping an exact score of this practice set with James Ward, but it is fair to say the British number one is winning easily."

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC Two

"Despite the scoreline, I don't think the serve of Matosevic serve is big enough, and I don't think his volleying is good enough to be attempting a volley on every first serve, as he is at present."

"Matosevic has got the mad dog tag but he is quite a hardworker.

"The standard at big tournaments is not all that different. The top players show calmness during these tournaments. Broady is doing really well so far, showing calmness during big moments."

"Matosevic is out of his comfort zone at the net and that is a tactic Broady has adopted."

Over on Court 18, Liam Broady is still fighting the good fight against Marinko Matosevic.

Matosevic is on an 11-match losing streak coming into this match, so just because he has bagged the first does not preclude some gremlins creeping in to derail him.

Alright all, Mike here stepping in while Aimee goes for a well earned stroll.

Nick Kyrgios is making short work of Diego Sebastian Schwartzman out on court two. He leads 6-0 6-2 2-2.

The Australian, who memorably downed Rafael Nadal as a teenage wildcard at last year's tournament, is cutting as fashion dash as well. He appears to be wearing a one-armed thermal underlayer, keeping his serving arm unencumbered and the chill off his chest. Asymmetric.

US Open champion Marin Cilic is serving for the second set against Hiroki Moriya of Japan. He is 6-3 5-2 to the good.

Chris Bevan watching Andy Murray practice
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Andy Murray takes a breather and peels his first banana of Wimbledon fortnight - cue a frenzy of clicking lenses from the assembled snappers. James Ward is still out here too and they have just started a set - not quite playing for real, but not far off... Murray has already berated himself for a couple of wayward forehands.

"His coaches Amelie Mauresmo and Jonas Bjorkman look on, watching each shot carefully and chatting quietly as the game continues."

  16. 'Matosevic cleans up'published at 12:30 British Summer Time 29 June 2015

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Disaster. Liam Broady loses his serve in game 11 after being out-thought and out-powered by world number 138 Marinko Matosevic, who is ranked 43 places higher than the British wildcard.

"The Aussie serves for the set - but gets the jitters. Two double faults gift a pair of break-back opportunities to Broady... then they disappear quicker than a punnet of juicy SW19 strawberries.

"A clip of the tape helps Broady have another look at the break in deuce, again Matosevic saves. Then he cleans up the first set with a thumping ace out wide."

Liam Broady fought - saving one set point with a fortuitous net cord - but he couldn't manoeuvre himself away from the ropes and, ultimately, falls in the first set - losing 7-5 to Marinko Matosevic.

  18. 'Let's go Liam"published at 12:23 British Summer Time 29 June 2015

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Groans around court 18 as Marinko Matosevic digs himself out of a hole in game six against Britain's Liam Broady. A backhand from the 22-year-old wildcard clips the tape, dusts the brilliant white paint and sets up two break points.

"But the Australian, who is looking for only his second SW19 win in his sixth appearance, goes on the offensive to earn a gutsy hold.

"The pair each hold to go to 5-4, with chants of 'Lets go Liam, let's go' - a ditty usually reserved for Andy Murray - rings around before Matosevic serves to stay in the set."

  20. Ward joins Murray for practicepublished at 12:15 British Summer Time 29 June 2015

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Fellow Brit James Ward has arrived to be Andy Murray's practice partner for the second half of his session and it is fair to say he moves a bit faster than Jonas Bjorkman. The pair are playing for points, then taking turns at the net. Murray is looking a bit more relaxed as he flings down a couple of smashes and he seems quite happy with the way things are going."
