Johanna Konta has been on BBC TV ahead of her match against Maria Sharapova.

After Novak Djokovic's straight-sets win, next up on Centre Court is British number two Johanna Konta against Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova was last seen suffering in defeat to Lucie Safarova in the fourth round of Roland Garros and has since been in Los Angeles for a full health MOT.

In the meantime Konta has been racking up the best form of her life, beating top-20 ranked Ekaterina Makarova and Garbine Muguruza on her way to the last eight of Eastbourne.

Hostilities have just been opened up on Centre Court with Sharapova holding serve in the first game.

"I think Novak's performance was relatively average. He was relieved to get that under his belt. He's had no competition and it showed.

"You can't win the tournament on the first day but you can lose it and he will be pleased to be into the next round."

No need to start work on a new Isner/Mahut style plaque just yet, but they are going long on Court 14.

Martin Klizan and Fernando Verdasco are at nine games all in the decider with more than three and a half hours on the clock.

And so here we are once again - Kohlschreiber fighting his way to 5-4, and now needing to keep that poise for one more game. Which isn't helped by double-faulting on his opening serve. That's more like it, ace out wide to the forehand side. No, forehand long, 30-30. Djokovic to mid-court, simple backhand to put away, slapped into the net. PK with a slicey backhand wide, and now a forehand into the net - match point for the champ... Forehand, into the tramlines - that's it, Djokovic into the second round to play Jarkko Nieminen or Lleyton Hewitt.

Signing for Manchester United? Agreeing a new deal with Bayern Munich?

Bastian Schweinsteiger has had more important things on his mind this summer, schlepping around Europe in support of girlfriend Ana Ivanovic.

Paris, Eastbourne and now Wimbledon. And it has been a pleasant outing so far, Ivanovic has swatted aside Yi-Fan Xu 6-1 6-1.

"It's quite extraordinary. Two sets to love down and to come down and win in five. Remarkable performance! Deserves every single applause he is getting. Fantastic. What a performance!

"Broady is used to playing in front of two hundred people at best and comes down and does this at Wimbledon. Lot of hard work has gone in there."

Uh-oh - PK long with a forehand, and at 15-30 the alarm bells start to sound. Ace out wide to the backhand side, let down with a backhand as feeble as the serve was mighty for break point. Backhand long from Djokovic, and he's not happy with something here - the call? His shot? Nice capitalising from Kohlschreiber, dinky drop-shot, off the hook.

    Pat Cash
1987 Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

"Broady's made some money there, at least £47,000 for winning his match, and that will keep him going for another few months. Players like Djokovic who earn millions of dollars each year don't need an extra £10,000 here or there, but to players like Liam it can make all the difference."
