"From a stage in this set where we had four service breaks in a row, both players have turned it round in this five-set thriller, with the winner to play Novak Djokovic in round two."

"The sun is high in the sky above a packed court two, where this match has already been going for more than three-and-a-half hours but, apart from the players, everyone else here would be happy if it does not finish anytime soon.

"This match might be one-sided off the court in terms of support but, on it, things are very even. Hewitt is rolling back the years as he scampers round the court playing the more spectacular tennis but Jarkko has the bigger serve and is also far more consistent."

I'm glad you've confirmed the sun is high in the sky, Chris. That's a relief to us all.

"There's been some vintage Hewitt in this fifth set, but he's still having to play catch-up. He's got a great heart and this is the perfect script for him - now he needs to make sure the script plays out how he wants it."

Ah. The spectators who disappeared from Centre Court aren't stretching their limbs. It seems as if everyone's feeding their cravings for strawberries and cream and who can blame them.

  5. Wawrinka v Sousa set to startpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 29 June 2015

French Open Stan Wawrinka and Joao Sousa have trotted onto Centre Court. Plenty of empty seats in this wonderful arena but everyone deserves to stretch their limbs now and again. The majority of spectators on Centre are trying to capture moments on their smart phones, although one gentleman in front of me has fallen asleep. Tiring work watching live sport.

Oh Roger, Roger, Roger. Please say you haven't described Lleyton Hewitt as a New Zealander. The seven-time champion must hope he never crosses paths with the boisterous 'Fanatics'.

"If I had 20 people in yellow T-shirts behind me, yelling 'C'mon Rusty' or 'Let's go Aussie' after every point it would probably put me off, rather than help - but after 17 years as a pro Lleyton Hewitt is probably used to his noisy 'Fanatics' by now.

"Their rendition of Queen classic "I want it all" even brought smiles from the officials on Court Two but most appropriate of all was "we love you because you're a fighter" and "warrior" after their man saved three match points to hold and make it 5-all in the fifth set of this thriller. He most definitely is one of those."

Centre Court's spectators are on their feet, applauding Maria Sharapova and Jo Konta as they walk towards the net. Former champion Sharapova joins Serena Williams in the second round after a straightforward 6-2 6-2 victory. Warm applause for both as they depart.

On Sharapova's championship chances: "She would be in that third tier. No question Serena is the favourite. You have to have Kvitova second for how well she has played over last few years. Sharapova is in that next group of contenders with the likes of Halep and maybe Azarenka, even though she is ranked a lot lower."

Nick Powell's prayers may have gone unanswered because former champion Lleyton Hewitt is serving to stay in the match. The Australian and Jarkko Nieminen currently duelling at deuce - 5-4 in the fifth.

Sarah Garlick: This Hewitt match is seriously lowering the chances of me getting to work on time tonight!

Nick Powell: Praying for Hewitt to get the win, would be brilliant to see him finish his time here on centre vs another champion.

Hello! Me again - nose slightly pinker than a few hours ago, and that's not through drink. Sun cream the dominant smell around Wimbledon although to look at many of the patrons I'm not sure where exactly they're slapping on the Factor 50. Anyway. To the tennis. Sharapova is closing in on victory, still 4-2 in the second.

Johanna Konta lives to fight at least a couple more games as, with a helpful netcord twang wrong-footing Maria Sharapova, she holds serve from deuce.

Britain's Liam Broady speaking to BBC Two: "The crowd was fantastic - they made the experience. After the first two sets wanted to give them more, managed to sneak third set and that was the best feeling of my life. So to win the match was fantastic.

"I've been working a lot on absorbing pressure from opponents and I managed to stay calm and feel focused.

"This was my first five-setter - I've played a few in practice but this was a little different.

"We were both shattered towards the end but I had a few thousand people cheering me on - and he didn't have as many!

"At 5-3 in the third set I was thinking 'I will remember today for the rest of my life'. I wanted to make sure i did myself proud."
