Although Raonic has won 79% of points on his first serve overall to Murray's 76%, the gap has closed from the first set where the Canadian's percentage was into the 80s and Murray's was in the 60s.

    Andy Murray is looking fidgety.

The Scot has the ugly end of 15-30 to look at and is suddenly tugging at his shorts and shirt as his discomfort shows.

The wardrobe may be malfunctioning, his game is not.

Murray wallops a forehand across court for a squeaky clean winner on the next point and then sends down a booming ace to seal the game.

He looks a whole lot more comfortable in his skin as he settles back on his courtside stool. And it is Raonic's turn to feel the seams and stitches. He serves to stay in the second set next.

That is a touch of a brain surgeon who builds matchstick models on his days off.

A sublime lob, flicked off his forehand and landing an inch inside the baseline from a horribly off-balance stance, seals a point for Andy Murray.

One for the highlights reel rather than the scoreboard though.

Milos Raonic keeps plugging on with his serve and sees off the danger.

Tom Peters: Murray has just got to win his service games, the chances on Raonic's serve will keep coming. He'll only need to take one.

Stephen Fraser: You can see Murray is up for this!

Charlotte Howatson: Come on Murray! Very little work getting done in the office this morning!

A hold to love as Raonic coughs up four errors - three on the forehand and one off the backhand.

Is the tide starting to flow against the Canadian?

"That was good tennis. It's what net play is all about. Raonic's presence at the net is enough to upset his opponent.

"It was a big hold, but he's not making many in-roads into Murray's serve."

If 80s super-movie Mannequin was set in the sports department rather than the fashion aisles, then it would have been Milos Raonic who came to life with hilarious consequences.

The statuesque Canadian barely breaks a smile as he salvages his serve from the furnaces to stay level in the set.

    Cool as a cucumber.

  9. Raonic saves break pointpublished at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2016

    Murray 4-6 3-2 Raonic*

Andy Murray has strapped on his crampons, packed his ice axe and is launching an assault on the mountainous Milos Raonic serve.

The Canadian duffs a backhand volley wide under little pressure to give Murray 30-40 and break point.

Murray with a fizzing pass on the next point - arrowed towards the kneecaps of Raonic at the net - but is snared on the wire.

    Deuce.

Dave Turner: People getting into Murray as soon as he loses a set. It's a semi-final, the guy on the other side of the net is quite good too

Alex Klinger: When Andy Murray plays in a semi final we should have the day off!! Can't bare working and not watching. Help!!!

    Murray 4-6 3-2 Raonic*

Andy Murray's serve comes under a smidge of pressure as he dumps the ball between the tramlines to allow Milos Raonic to sneak back to 40-30.

The Scot is tightening his stranglehold on the lengthy rallies in this match though, keeping the Canadian out in the wings where he is concentrating on getting the ball back rather than thumping winners.

    *Murray 4-6 2-2 Raonic

    Pat Cash

"I'm loving this, because half of it is bluff. It's the mental game of being a serve-volleyer.

"If you can win three or four points just from bluffing near the net, that's a lot."

    *Murray 4-6 2-2 Raonic

Milos Raonic has got his eye in. And he has got his Hawk-Eye in as well.

The Canadian calls on the video gods yet again and they save him from slipping from 0-15 to 0-30. That is a big call from the virtual replay geeks.

Andy Murray fails to win another point in the game and another sniff of a break drifts away in the Melbourne breeze.

    Murray 4-6 2-1 Raonic*

Andy Murray, 40-15 up, slaps down a big serve.

    Is it an ace?

Milos Raonic doesn't know. And decides to ask umpire Jake Garner's advice. They get into a lengthy discussion about the various marks on the court surface and the merits of a challenge.

Murray - understandably - takes exception at this little impromptu committee meeting. His mood is not improved when Raonic's belated review shows the ball is long.

When he clinches the game on the next point, Murray yelps with pointed delight. Is that the spark to light the fuse and start the Scot's fireworks?

Lee Edmonds: Murray doing his usual in majors. Flattering to deceive at the business end

David Denton: Murray has a mound to climb.

    Pat Cash

"If someone like Andy Murray is struggling to control it, then it really is a class serve from Raonic.

"He's obviously got a beautiful serve but he also knows how to place it. He's a great athlete."

    *Murray 4-6 1-1 Raonic

Trying to decipher the Milos Raonic's serve is like working out the Rosetta Stone. After it has been fired at you from a cannon.

If the power doesn't get you, the spin will and Murray can only pat a kicking second serve wide as Raonic escapes his clutches once again.
