It was the perfect game. It was good returns, volleys, and there was no coming back. Raonic has easy power, he reminds me of Juan Martin del Potro.

    Someone has had their cornflakes.

Milos Raonic has come out of the traps like he has not seen raw meat for a week.

The Canadian clubs away a forehand to take the break to love.

If he needed any reminders, Andy Murray is in for a serious test.

Milos Raonic fends a backhand return up onto the Andy Murray baseline before splattering a forehand across court to win the very first point in impressive style.

    Hello.

Raonic comes to the net on the next point and punches away a cute volley.

    Ominous.

    Double fault Murray. 0-40.

    Three break points Raonic.

    Pat Cash

"The Murray lob is such a weapon - he's able to get it over the tall guys - and that will force Raonic to hedge his bets a bit and stay back from the net."

    "Time," calls umpire Jake Garner.

The warm-up is coming to an end. The action is about to get toasty.

Murray will tee off I believe.

"It's an intriguing match-up. It's a mental battle for Murray, in terms of tactics and focus. He's going to have games where he can't get the racket on the ball because of Raonic's serve. He can't be too negative. The unknown aspect is how Raonic will deal with the match."

    Russell Fuller
    BBC tennis correspondent in Melbourne

"Raonic's power game and Murray's fabulous ability to return makes it a terrific match-up. There won't be too many long rallies, I suspect, with Murray very good - much better than you would think - at winning points in short rallies."

Both coaches have gone one better than their charges today.

Amelie Mauresmo, back alongside Andy Murray after the birth of son Aaron, lifted the Aussie Open title in 2006.

Carlos Moya, who has just started working with Raonic and is bringing some serve-volley to the Canadian's game, reached the final in Melbourne in 1997.

  16. Murray in Melbournepublished at 08:28 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2016

Andy Murray's got plenty of wins at Melbourne Park...but no trophy.

If he earns his 45th victory, he will draw level with Pete Sampras and Rafael Nadal in joint-sixth place on the Open Era list for most Australian Open match-wins.

And if he wins the following match he will become the first man to win a Grand Slam after losing four finals at the same event.

Roger Federer, at Roland Garros, and Ivan Lendl, at the US Open, are the only players to lose three Grand Slam finals at one major before winning the title.
