    To clarify, Murray will play The Spanish Wall, David Ferrer, in the quarter-finals after the eighth seed beat John Isner of the United States in three sets. In addition, Johanna Konta having won earlier on, this is the first time since 1977 that Britain have had players in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam in both the men's and women's draw.

    Tomic plays a tired shot into the net and Murray has four match points... the Australian saves one, Murray yanking a backhand into the net, but now it's Murray to serve... some beefy hitting from Tomic and Murray eventually buckles, steering a backhand wide. Tomic goes long with a forehand return, Murray through to the last eight for the seventh straight year.

    Tomic with another inexplicable unforced error but he does send a wicked serve down the middle that Murray is only able to bunt into the base of the net.

Extraordinary scrambling from Murray from behind the baseline and the point eventually ends with an overrule after a forehand by the Scot is initially called out. Tomic steers a backhand return wide before Murray pulls out a big serve and puts away a forehand into the open court. we have a tie-breaker...

    Lucky net cord for Tomic as he moves 30-0 ahead but the Aussie heaves a tired forehand long for 30-15. Murray weaving some magic with his sliced backhand, the ball pitching and spinning like a leg-break in cricket, and it's 30-30. Tomic goes long with a backhand for deuce... 

    Murray nets with a forehand return after a good first serve by Tomic before the Aussie incorrectly challenges a Murray backhand that skims the line. Tomic with an ace, his ninth, but he follows that with another errant backhand. Murray with a magnificent cross-court backhand winner to nick the advantage, before Tomic digs deep to win another feisty baseline exchange. A wry smile from Tomic, another ace but he follows that with another unforced error...

    Tomic with a backhand volley for another advantage and this time he converts, sending Murray out wide with a solid serve before putting away an easy volley.

    "I thought she had blown it but then she broke back and I knew she was going to do it. I am so excited.

    "Hopefully she'll get this win out of her system. She must not think she should win but should focus on playing her game. I genuinely think she has a chance of making the semi-finals, so fingers crossed."

    Second double-fault from Tomic but he outlasts Murray on the next point before Murray nets with an attempted drop-shot. Tomic finds the net with an attempted backhand pass for 30-30 before Murray tugs a backhand return long - brave second serve, that. Murray all over that backhand return, it left Tomic rooted, and he secures the game with a peach of a backhand pick-up.

    Great point that, Murray pulling Tomic all over the court before pulling out a tremendous lob on the half-volley, which the Aussie is unable to run down. Murray down the middle with another ace, I have a funny feeling about this next game...

    All of a sudden we have an atmosphere on Rod Laver as Tomic races into a 40-0 lead. And the place goes wild after that tremendous rally, which Tomic finishes off to hold. I believe that's his fifth service hold in a row. It looked like Tomic almost lost hope, but that can be a spur of sorts.
