Andy Murray with a second break point, but his cross-court pass is gobbled up by the net.

And here comes a third. Murray with the most miserable drop-shot, hanging its head long before it dribbles into the gauze.

    On we go...

These double-faults have a sense of timing. Another rears up its head to hand Andy Murray a break-back point.

Richard Gasquet pins the Briton back deep on his backhand wing to save it.

A slam-dunk smash and Gasquet has set point once more.

Murray, with a wicked cross-court pass, fizzing with top-spin, pegs him back.

    Murray 5-6 *Gasquet

Andy Murray spent much of the changeover looking over to his box and apparently seeming unimpressed by what little he was getting back.

If they don't have the answers, then Murray doesn't seem able to crunch the code himself.

A tame backhand into the net is followed by a Gasquet drop-shot that catches him hopelessly on his heels.

    Two set points Gasquet.

But what is this? Murray scrapes both back off the table.

    Murray 5-6 *Gasquet

Andy Murray is suddenly the man under pressure. The Briton slips 0-30 down after a couple of ugly errors.

Even Lady Luck is conspiring against him.

A delicate forehand slice dropper sneaks over for Gasquet after bumping and grinding the net cord.

    15-40 and two break points.

Murray saves the first and gifts Gasquet the second. A double fault and the tide has turned. In a bad, bad way from a British point of view.

Murray has lost four straight games. Gasquet serves for the set next.

"Richard has done well to be in this position.

"Andy has started hitting flatter shots which Richard likes. He needs to go back to how he was playing earlier in the set."

Even with just the single break in Murray's pocket, this set looked a done deal.

    Now it is alive, alive-o.

    Murray 5-4 *Gasquet

Richard Gasquet has a bad case of the wobbles as he sends a dreadful forehand into the bottom of the net from a mid-court bounce.

    That gives Andy Murray 0-30.

But a second-serve return hit long and a drop-shot that dribbles along the tape and then drops the wrong side allow Gasquet back to 30-30.

Murray stretches Gasquet beyond his limits with a forehand pass though and we are into deuce.

"People are on their feet, cheering in the stands now. That was outstanding.

"We can see Richard is really encouraging himself now. This is his moment now, this is the opportunity he needed."

A Frenchman on a phone wanders across Andy Murray's eyeline and causes him to restart his service shuffle.

A distracted Scot offers up a second break point.

A ding-donger of a rally - both players coming into the net before being sent back to the baseline by well-weighted lobs.

Murray breaks down first, framing a forehand long and wide. Gallic glee.

    The set back on serve.

    Now then.

Andy Murray attempting to serve out, 0-15 down, duffs down a double fault.

Some rather unsporting, but entirely understandable, cheers from the stands.

The British number one chases in a second serve and slaps away a volley. 15-30. And again off the first. 30-30.

A shocker of a dropper though off the Scot's racquet - as limp as week-old lettuce - dies in the bottom of the net.

Break point Gasquet - saved with more of that no-nonsense serve and volley.

Richard Gasquet takes a fall as he skids in for a drop-shot and gets his legs in a tangle.

There is no way of styling that out so the Frenchman gets up, dusts himself down and takes his medicine while the television replays serve up his tumble in slow motion.

Actually, maybe there is a way of styling it out.

Gasquet rattles off the next four points, his backhand suddenly piercing the court for winners.

Put the man's cool points on the line and he turns into a superhero.

    *Murray 4-2 Gasquet

Andy Murray yelps with delight as he holds Richard Gasquet at bay with some scurrying defence and is rewarded with a French shank for 30-15.

That drop-shot is just a little off target though, drifting between the trams to give Gasquet a sniff at 30-30.

The home crowd are showing a bit of interest now.

Even more so now that Murray has over-cooked cross court to take the game to deuce.

Richard Gasquet conjures up a love service hold and some Gallic support with some of those sublime baseline groundstrokes.

The Frenchman's yellow frame was whipping around like a conductor's baton, plenty of racquet head speed generated off a leisurely take-back.

The Andy Murray drop-shot is set to delicious today.

A couple of doozies drop doornail-dead on Richard Gasquet's side of the court.

And the Scot has brought the sledgehammer in his bag along with the feather duster. His second ace of the match closes out the game.

    Well, that was weird.

Richard Gasquet allows a cross-court Andy Murray forehand to float past him and drop just inside the baseline.

Did a puff of breeze bring the shot back into play? Or did the Frenchman just lose his bearings?

That was the only aberration though from Gasquet who holds to 15 to belatedly get on the board.
