"Djokovic is getting more balls back now, and you don't want to give him confidence on his return because that's what he's so good at. Murray is going for the lines on his second serve and sometimes he will miss them."

    *Djokovic 3-6 2-0 Murray

Novak Djokovic broke Andy Murray's serve in the first game of the first set.

He has done so - via a Murray double fault at 30-40 - early in the second.

Will that be a turning point or a footnote?

  3. Two break points Djokovicpublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 5 June 2016

    Djokovic 3-6 1-0 *Murray

Novak Djokovic lost in the French Open final last year, his bottom lip getting a little wobbly as Stan Wawrinka played out of his skin to win.

The thought of picking up the runners-up cheque seems to have focused his mind.

Murray seems less comfortable as the front runner. 15-40 and two break points Djokovic.

The Philippe Chatrier crowd are licking their lips.

5 live commentator Philip Studd: "That was a crucial hold. Had Murray broken at the start of the second set, Djokovic would really have been under the pump. And for the first time, we saw a little bit of positive body language from him."

Andy Murray with a passing shot from the wings, touched with brilliance, brings up a break point.

This could be a biggie. A chance to keep the foot to the throttle and slowly squeeze the life out of Novak Djokovic.

Murray plays a couple of sloppy points though when he needed something out of the top drawer and Djokovic squirms out of his grasp.

    *Djokovic 3-6 0-0 Murray

Andy Murray has won 10 and lost four after winning the first set against Novak Djokovic.

Those sound like good numbers, but some of them will have been over two-set contests however.

Obviously better than losing the first set though. Murray has never beaten the Serb after losing the first set.

And now, Murray has a little shot at the Djokovic serve early in the second as the world number one double faults at 40-30.

"Djokovic's play is well below what we'd expect from him. He's made way too many forehand errors and not many first serves. It looks to me like he's trying to stay so calm that he hasn't got the bit between the teeth. He's almost waiting for his opponent to lose, like he did against Wawrinka last year. He has to get into this match."

"Nine times out of 10, the umpire would ask for that point to be replayed. It's a very brave call from Damien Dumusois."

    Did someone order it spicy?

Novak Djokovic, 15-0 down, slaps a return long off a serve that was belatedly called out by a line judge.

The umpire is out of his chair to review the marks and rules the serve was, in fact, good.

Djokovic says the line judge's call distracted him midswing and wants the point replayed. The umpire says that he has already hit the ball and it made no difference.

Djokovic throws a mini-strop, the crowd jeer, Murray's serve is delayed.

Djokovic, revenge on his mind, claws back to 40-30 from 40-0 down.

But then finds the net as he goes cross-court. Set Murray, but time for Djokovic to brew on the (perceived) injustice of it all...

    Djokovic 3-5 *Murray

Novak Djokovic is playing tennis at the sort of percentages that even his sublime skill and shot-making struggles to support.

The Serb gifts Murray too free points as goes hunting lines early in the rally and gets his calculations marginally wrong.

Andy Murray has 15-30, but Djokovic calms down, plays a little more conservatively and forces the Scot to serve out for the set.

"Djokovic is starting to wake up, and Murray is getting frustrated and pointing at his box. That's a slightly worrying sign for Murray fans."

As if holding the world number one at bay was not enough, Andy Murray decides to direct the French television coverage as he does so.

Between points the Scot angrily orders the host broadcaster's courtside reporter away from his camp in the players box. The man with the mic was apparently lurking, threatening to grab a few words with one of his connections.

Once the journalist shuffles shame-faced back to his original position, Murray gets down to business and shuts the door on Djokovic.

Andy Murray sends down a rocket of a T-splitter at 30-15 up.

Is there something stirring in Novak Djokovic though? The world number one suddenly looks a little hungrier, his game looks a little tighter.

He forces deuce. The crowd murmur expectantly. Murray looks over to his box...

"I cannot believe the forehands Djokovic is missing. These are mid-court balls down the line and he's missing them time and time again. It's about as bad a set as you could ever expect from the world number one."

Novak Djokovic makes it home safely on serve, but it is wild out there for him.

Andy Murray is swinging like a crazed axeman when the Serb fails to land with his first attempt to tee off.

Andy Murray is gobbling up the Novak Djokovic second serve like it is a Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

The Scot steps almost up to the service line to get stuck in and force 30-30.

Another second serve to look at. Murray fails to capitalise this time, but a hefty netcord lands Djokovic's side to help him to deuce.
