    *Djokovic 1-4 Murray

Novak Djokovic twangs the tape with a gimme of a midcourt forehand at 15-15.

Is it the pressure that Murray is applying at the other end that is making the world number one trim his margins to millimetres?

Or is trying to reel in the last of the big four making his racquet arm jippy?

A bit early to call that, but the mojo is firmly in Murray's corner.

He rattles off another hold and has a nice scoreboard to look at during the changeover.

"Murray is letting rip on every single forehand return that he's got so far. Djokovic is hardly making any first serves and he's giving Murray fantastic opportunities."

"Djokovic has a rueful smile on his face. His forehand is really out of sorts."

    Djokovic 1-3 *Murray

Novak Djokovic overcooks another forehand under minimal pressure and Andy Murray moves a break up in the first set that so many commentators pin as crucial to the outcome.

Time to make hay because Novak doesn't stay off the boil for long.

    *Djokovic 1-2 Murray

Andy Murray swings for the backboards as Novak Djokovic powerpuffs down a second serve at 0-15.

A crunching winner that the Serb doesn't even twitch for. 0-30.

Murray chomping at the bit. Djokovic nips a point back with a good drop-shot, but sprays a regulation forehand wide.

    Two break points Murray.

    *Djokovic 1-2 Murray

That was more like it from the Andy Murray serve.

He pelts down some heavy stuff and Novak Djokovic cannot get his crowbar in anywhere.

A hold to love. And the crowd - so noisy after Djokovic broke in the opening game - are more sedate now.

    Djokovic 1-1 *Murray

Novak Djokovic saves two break points, but is left chewing the inside of his cheek in frustration as Andy Murray hits him with the old dropper-lobber one-two to seal the third.

    *Djokovic 1-0*Murray

    How's that for a riposte?

Novak Djokovic dusted off the drop-shot again at 0-15 down.

But Andy Murray is off out the blocks at pace, running it down, shutting down the angles and luring Djokovic wide.

Djokovic never recovers from a big cross-court return on the next point and suddenly Murray, like Djokovic in the opener, has three break points.

"It's amazing how little Djokovic gives you from the very first point. It was a perfect game. Novak did pretty much what Andy was doing against Stan Wawrinka: stepping up and hitting those second-serve returns really hard."

That is the sound of gauntlet swiped across Andy Murray's cheek.

Novak Djokovic converts the first break point with a stinging return up onto the baseline that catches the Briton cold.

    First blood Nole.

    Djokovic 0-0 *Murray

A intriguing first point full of to and fro, ends with Novak Djokovic tickling over an inch-perfect drop-shot.

Andy Murray takes on a backhand down the line and lands just wide. A bit of bother already for Murray at 0-30.

Djokovic brings him into the net once more, reads the reply and plops the winner into open court. 0-40 and three break points Djokovic.

    Here we go.

Novak Djokovic trots to the baseline to chants of Nole, Nole from some in the crowd.

Andy Murray takes his time and seems to get a bit of bird from some spectators before he finally gets off his stool and up to serve.

"The start is important. Murray has been serving well, and electing to serve first is a little mind game. It's an aggressive move, it's attacking. A good choice."

    Djokovic v Murray

    A quick wardrobe check.

Novak Djokovic is wearing final-day red, ala Tiger Woods. Andy Murray, going for Wimbledon white to try and revive a bit of the 2013 magic.

Murray's name is announced to the French Open crowd and gets a hearty cheer. Djokovic's ovation is a good deal more hearty though, it has to be said.

Murray will be going against the majority in Philippe Chatrier.

    One minute.

  20. Murray wins tosspublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 5 June 2016

    Djokovic v Murray

Andy Murray sucks down a slug of isotonic, Novak Djokovic strips the sellophane from a freshly-stringed racquet and now they come nose to nose at the net.

Murray wins the toss and, we believe, opts to tee off the serving.

Djokovic's grin is the more convincing as the pair pose for a pre-match snap. But Murray is never going to compete with the Serb in the smile stakes. He is here to win trophies, not friends.
