Leonardo Mayer lashes a forehand just long with a healthy slice of court to aim at and Evans out of the picture to squander a second break point.

    That was a big miss.

Dan Evans is knocked back from game point with a forehand slid out wide.

    On we go...

A couple of errors off Leonardo Mayer's racquet raise British fans' hopes. Has the Argentine run cold?

But Dan Evans follows with a couple of mistakes of his own. 30-30.

A crunching forehand across court from Mayer brings up 30-40 and sets the alarm bells ringing.

Evans plucks an ace out of the quiver just when he needs it.

    Deuce.

You have to give immense credit to Mayer. His game has elevated and this is the deciding rubber in a semi final of the Davis Cup.

He is playing like a man possessed. There is not a lot Dan Evans can do.

At the moment he is not sure what to do. There are times you have got to guts it out, change it up with variety, and know at sometime Mayer will miss.

He came into the match with better form and a higher ranking.

Can his belief survive this onslaught?

He has headed behind the scenes to try and recover his senses.

Leonardo Mayer cracks a couple of groundstrokes long.

Dan Evans has a game on the board.

The Thunderbirds would struggle to rescue this set now though.

    Mayer serves for it next.

This set is a done deal.

Evans needs Leon Smith more than anyone. He needs the calming presence.

Evans is forcing issue too much now. There is a slight bit of panic in his game, trying for quick points because he is being forced back by the brilliant play of Mayer.

He has got to get back to what makes Dan Evans the player he is, the variety.

Davis Cup: Dan Evans broken again by Leonardo Mayer

This set has been whipped from underneath Dan Evans like a tablecloth in a magician's trick.

He plants a backhand into the midpoint of the net and finds himself a double break down.

Unsurprisingly Leonardo Mayer is trending back in Argentina.

Is it too late to get Juan Martin del Potro back in please?

Leonardo Mayer swats a streak of a return past Dan Evans for 30-40 and break point.

Evans flopped in the midriff as that went by. This unrelenting quality from the other end could get a man down.

Mayer goes for broke again on the next point, but for once his radar is wonky. Long and to deuce.

Nice play from Dan Evans as he trains a couple of groundstrokes to the margins and Leonardo Mayer, on the run, punts wide for 40-30.

But the flow of free points off the Mayer first serve continues and is tipping the scales in his favour.

A corker out wide shuts the door on the Briton.

Mayer has won 82% of points behind his first serve so far in the match.

At the moment Evans is getting overpowered. The serve from Mayer has been a different level and the groundstrokes are heavier and he's cut down the errors.

I just wonder whether Evans should implement more slice, particularly on the backhand, and change the rhythm. When they are going toe to toe, Mayer is coming out on top.

Dan Evans gets on the board in the third set, holding to 15.

That looked a little sharper and a little more precise from the Briton.

Mayer's only point was rather fortunate as he planted his feet and Evans' smash came straight to him.

Leonardo Mayer - Samurai-style headband wrapped around his temple - is still the fastest serve in town.

It is like he has borrowed Juan Martin del Potro's tee-off for the match given the man himself cannot play in this one.

Dan Evans with the most delicate, deftest little half-volley pick-up pulls back to 15-15.

Captain Leon Smith nods knowingly, eyes locked on his man.

A kicker of a forehand winner helps him to 40-15.

    Evans bellows a 'C'mon'.

Mayer comes in a feel-volleys his way to deuce.

"Vamos!" comes the response from the Argentina bench.

This is the heart of the match.

Evans is livid with himself for that 30-30 point. He had the chance but just snatched at it.

That fightback was led by the quality of serving from Mayer. He didn't allow Evans to get into the points.
