Gavrilova takes a long moment to settle herself, bouncing the ball before slamming a serve that Broady slashes into the net. Gavrilova looks on top before Broady comes up to the net again and pats the ball beyond Gavrilova.

Broady, serving for the set, comes up to the net and Gavrilova gets her backhand all wrong. There's a grunt of frustration and a glance up to her support box.

It's not going her way at all as she whacks a forehand wide, before Broady unleashes. She stays back before advancing up to the net and just powering the ball beyond Gavrilova's reach. First set to Broady.

    Gavrilova 3-5 Broady*

That's ridiculously good from Naomi Broady.

Gavrilova looks strong on her serve and leads to 30-0, but Broady battles back as Gavrilova first miscues a forehand before she double faults. A poor backhand gives Broady the advantage.

Broady's in the Australian Open main draw for the first time and she's going to make the absolute most of this. She will be satisfied with the way this has started.

    Djokovic 6-1 7-6 5-2 Verdasco*

Verdasco, serving to stay alive, swings a forehand long for a rocky start.

But Djokovic pops up a high lob attempt that the Spaniard waits an eternity to drop before dispatching it after a bounce.

The crowd get their hands clapping for a tasty rally, which sees Verdasco benefit from a net cord for 40-30.

But Djokovic will just not go away as he forces Fernando into finding the net.

A wild forehand from the lefty Spaniard goes long and Djokovic is a game away from the second round.
