One suspects that pose might be how Rafa Nadal will be sleeping tonight. He won't want to let the Coupe des Mousquetaires go.

He's still clutching it as he signs tens of autographs inside Chatrier, and then poses with all the ball boys and ball girls in a picture that they will all cherish until they are grey and old.

While Rafa celebrates long into the Parisian night, it is time for us to say goodbye. Sad face.

Thanks for your company over the past fortnight. And remember: we're only three weeks from the next Slam. Wimbledon.

He says on court: "Thank you to my friends, family and team. All the people who come from all around the world for the final."

And he has a word for uncle Toni, his coach, too...

"My uncle's been with me since three years old. We've worked a lot and without him I would not have 10 trophies.

"One last thing, for me playing on this court I feel the support. I love you people more than any other."

Nadal speaking after receiving the French Open trophy: "First of all Stan, congrats on a great career in last couple of years. Well done, sorry for today. You've had an unbelievable two weeks. I wish you the best for the rest of the season, keep going.

"It's difficult to talk today but the only thing I can say is thank you. For me to be here for many years is difficult to describe. I come back and see people I have a good relationship with and it's very special.

I can recall people saying when he beat Mariano Puerta back in 2005, aged 19, that Nadal could win 10 of these. He was that good that it made sense, but surely form, fitness or emerging rivals would derail him at some stage. Well, they have all played a part, which makes it all the more remarkable that he is holding the Coupe de Mousquetaires for a 10th time. And more dominant than ever. Don't rule out number 11. Or 12.

Tears. We want tears! Before Rafa makes another victory speech, the Roland Garros bosses put on a video of all his previous wins in Paris. Changing hairstyles, changing outfits, the same smile. And the same ferocious forehands. Spine-tingling stuff.

Now it is time for Rafa Nadal to step up onto a stage which looks rather like a fashion catwalk.

Up struts the Spaniard, clasping the Coupe des Mousquetaires in both hands, then - as is the tradition - gently biting the top of the trophy for the cameras.

A massive roar as the name of Stan Wawrinka is read out, Rafa Nadal thumping his hands together in applause for the runner-up.

Roy Emerson hands over a shiny silver plate to the Swiss. He might be serving some scones and jam on that tonight.

Everyone inside Chatrier is stood on their feet as Roy Emerson is introduced to the crowd. The 12-time Grand Slam winner is going to present the Coupe des Mousquetaires to Rafa Nadal. From one great champion to another. Very fitting.

Nadal speaking on court: "I play my best in all events but the feeling I have here is impossible to describe and you can't compare it. The nerves and adrenaline I feel on this court is impossible to compare. It's the most important event in my career."
