    *Nadal 6-4 1-0 Young

Like in the first set, Donald Young shanks his first attempt at a winner well wide. But then Nadal goes long and we're level.

Oh heck, Young is having a go at himself again. And now he's getting irritated by the ball boys and girls, and tells them to hurry up.

Nadal brings up break point and it's a bit of history repeating as the Spaniard breaks in the first game again.

  3. Game and first set - Nadalpublished at 19:19 British Summer Time 5 July 2017

    Nadal 6-4 Young*

Nadal comes rushing net-wards and belts a volley for 30-0. And then comes the inevitable three set points.

His mahoosive serve means he needs only one chance to take it.

    *Nadal 5-4 Young

He's a bit stroppy, is Donald Young. I like that.

The American challenges a call on the baseline but gets it wrong and mutters something to himself.

With a bit of anger, he sparks a forehand winner into the corner to lead 40-30 and lands an angled ace to hold.

    Over to you, Rafa.

Nadal looks rejuvenated, like he's been left in a box for too long and has now been let out.

One little corner of Centre is still lathered in late-evening sunshine. That's the opposite corner to the media seats, the area which houses the Royal Box and the players' box.

Well, you've got to look after your most important guests. Right?

    Nadal 5-3 Young*

A Nadal second serve causes Young to hit a wild return and it almost hits a line judge square in the chops.

Rafa continues to pummel winners down court and holds to love. Young will serve to stay in the set.

    *Nadal 4-3 Young

    Ace! Advantage Young.

    Net! Back to deuce.

Young berates himself over that shot. "IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A FOREHAND," he screams.

The American composes himself and is eventually able to hold.

    *Nadal 4-2 Young

Let's all take a moment to appreciate Rafa Nadal's left-handed forehand winner into the corner. It's a thing of beauty. His latest effort takes him 0-30 in front.

Young recovers to level the game and overpowers Nadal with a huge serve for 40-30. It goes to waste, though, as he nets the next point. Deuce.

The American wrong-foots his opponent to take the advantage but back to deuce we go...

    Nadal 4-2 Young*

Young screams in anger after netting to hand Nadal the advantage after deuce and the Spaniard eventually comes through the tricky service game.

    *Haddad Maia 2-0 Halep

It's Beatriz Haddad Maia, world number 97, that has had the better of the early exchanges against Simona Halep.

The Brazilian has got the first break of the match over on Court One, courtesy of some fine, bustling forehands.

  12. Postpublished at 19:01 British Summer Time 5 July 2017

    Nadal 3-2 Young*

A lesser-spotted Rafa Nadal double fault. Is he a bit rattled?

The Spaniard recovers to 30-15 as Donald sends a forehand wide, and then the American nets, with Nadal hovering with intent on the other side.

The fourth seed fails to clear it on the next point and we go to deuce thanks to a dead straight forehand winner from Young.

Chris Jones: Has Nadal got a bus to catch or something? He's not hanging about.

Steven Ilott: Tomic is fairly unpopular, but is it any wonder he struggles for motivation? This is the human cost of Federer/Nadal immortality.

    *Nadal 3-2 Young

After a shaky start, Donald Young has really found his feet here.

At 40-0, he pulls out a net volley and then an overhead slam - which hits the body of Nadal - to hold to love.

    He's confident. We like that.

    Nadal 3-1 Young*

Another relatively easy hold of serve for Rafa Nadal. That first break in the opening game has done his nerves the world of good.

Hang on. Does Rafa even get nervous? I doubt it.

  17. Game and second set - Kvitovapublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 5 July 2017

    Brengle 6-1 1-6 Kvitova

We are into a deciding set in the match between American Madison Brengle and 11th seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Kvitova, playing only her third tournament of the year after being stabbed by an intruder at her home in December, lost the first set 6-1 but then took the second by the same scoreline.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Kvitova made 20 unforced errors in the opening set, but only five in the second as she forced a third set.

Any idea who these two young Spanish ladies are supporting? Of course, it is Rafael Nadal.

Between my rubbish Spanish and their much-clearer English, our Spanglish reveals they are Julia and Sofia.

The teenage pair have a summer break from college to fill and so, quite sensibly, decided to travel from northern Spain to London during Wimbledon.

They tell me they'll be hanging out in the capital's hip districts and doing some sightseeing. But the main reason they're here is - you've guessed it - Rafa.

"Will he win Wimbledon? Of course," say the Centre Court ticket holders.

A mini victory for Donald Young as he outsmarts Nadal at the net.

The American moves to 40-15 and serves out with an ace.

    That's more like it.
