He sends Lajovic flying to right with a brilliant forehand winner, and it looks as though he's going to hold to love too...but then the Swiss's forehand lands just wide.

Federer does go on to hold and we have a tie-break on our hands.

We would have expected Lajovic to freeze up and Federer to jump on him. He got the early break, then realised where he was, but he's settled down again.

    Lajovic 6-5 Federer*

    Dusan Lajovic continues to impress

The Serb rattles along to 40-0 and then watches Roger Federer's forehand go long over the chalk. Another hold to love.

The crowd enjoy a bit of serve-and-volley goodness from Roger Federer.

The cheers increase as he forehands into the open grass for 30-0.

The usual slow hand claps ensue as Lajovic challenges the next call. It's in, he's wrong.

Federer holds to love by casually strolling up to the net and just hitting it light and flat. So much chill.

  6. Kerber broken earlypublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Kerber 2-4 Flipkens

All is not necessarily well in Angelique Kerber's world. She is having a chat with her coach after a change of ends, her body language is not the most positive. Shoulders down.

During that break Kirsten Flipkens was eating something out of a tub which got the commentary team excited.

What was it? They think it was honey. A cracking half-set snack.

Back on the court Flipkens engineers a break point and Kerber can only shunt into the net. An early break!

    Lajovic 5-4 Federer*

Is Federer starting to turn the charm on now?

Not if Dusan Lajovic has his way. At 30-30, the Serb arrows a powerful winner down Roger's right-hand side and he sees out another service game. No fear.

Punters were scurrying over to Court 2 a tad earlier. Why? Two reasons.

One, this tidy, open-air court is a beauty of a sun-trap in the late afternoon London sun.

And two, most importantly, there was a shock brewing.

Milos Raonic, the Canadian sixth seed and last year's beaten finalist, lost the first set against ageing Russian Mikhail Youzny.

Was a shock brewing. Raonic saw off a couple of set points to win the second-set tie breaker and has just completed the turnaround by clinching the third set with a love to hold.

New balls arrive and Roger Federer immediately sends one down for an ace. His 10,006th, apparently.

A double fault follows before Lajovic fires long for 30-15.

The duo are pinned to their corners and Federer pulls out a swinging forehand winner to move to 40-15.

    And the Swiss then holds.

Still on serve over on Court One, Kirsten Flipkens showing some nice touches at the net already. It's not going to be an easy match for the world number one.

Federer had been waiting for a long time to come on court, so probably a little bit later than he anticipated. He's not got in to full gear yet.

    Lajovic 4-3 Federer*

Lajovic looks really comfortable out on the big stage, which comes as a bit of a surprise seeing as he's never won back-to-back matches on grass.

The world number 79 chalks off another service game by coming into the net and planting a backhand volley.

  13. Van Gaal applauds epic rallypublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

Magdalena Rybarikova played some remarkable tennis in her shock win against Karolina Pliskova, exemplified by her winning this amazing rally. Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is in the crowd and he approves.

Roger Federer steams through another love hold. In a rush, lads?

Another call of 'marry me, Roger' is shouted from the stands. Is it the same bloke who did it in the first round? We think you may have to get in line, Sir.

    *Lajovic 2-2 Federer

Federer serves into the path of the golden sunlight which is still beating down on Centre Court.

He lands the 10,000-and-something ace of his career for 40-0 and goes on to hold to love.

We are level in the first set.

  18. Federer breaks backpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

    Lajovic 2-1 Federer*

A first proper rally to get the crowd going. Lovely job. The point goes to Federer after his opponent overcooks his shot past the baseline.

And Lajovic can only bosh the net to hand Federer two break back points.

The first is lost - during a rally in which a shot comes off Fed's bright white trainers - but he takes the break on the second go.

  19. Raonic wins second setpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 6 July 2017

After a first set loss, Milos Raonic fights back to take the second set.
