Nadal, with the mini-break, produces a stunning, powerful, low cross-court backhand winner to create a two-point advantage at 4-2.

The first serve is no good, but the second is perfect and Khachanov is now 5-2 down and in grave danger.

So far, so good for Heather Watson's revenge mission against Victoria Azarenka - the hands you can see in the photo below are applauding her and Finnish partner Henri Kontinen after the defending champions took the first set of their first-round mixed doubles match.

  3. Tie-breakpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 6-6 Khachanov (3-2)

Nadal is too big on his return, an easy point for the Russian. He is then equally wild to slash one into the net. 3-2 Rafa.

  4. Tie-breakpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 6-6 Khachanov (2-1)

Nadal's first serve hits the net, but the second is perfect, deep into the body of Khachanov and it is 1-1.

An epic rally then follows, before Nadal fools everyone with a cute drop shot to go 2-1 ahead.

  5. Tie-breakpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 6-6 Khachanov (0-1)

Nadal hasn't lost a set since the Aussie Open final, remember. Khachanov wins the first point off his own serve.

  6. Tie-breakpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 6-6 Khachanov

The Rafa Nadal serve again comes under threat, Karen Khachanov is playing well now as he faces elimination. He can sure strike a mean pinball.

Nadal still puts anything in his zone away though. A clean winner all day long brings us back to 30-30.

Another break point, another save with a great drop shot and then a cracking volleyed winner for Nadal. He enjoyed that one.

In and out of deuce, the game rumbles on. Nadal comes to the net again to fizz away another cute volley. No sign of any mobility problems, considering his lengthy injury worries down the years.

    And he eventually holds! Tie-break.

Sarah: Toddler's bedtime in 45mins. Until then I'm stuck watching Chuggington. Could you please ask Khachanov to hold out a bit longer?

I don't know what that is. But it sounds unpleasant.

Not exactly textbook volleying there but it got the job done.

    More of a two-fisted jab.

Some siblings would hate the thought of working together. Not the Broadys.

Naomi, the British number three, and her younger brother Liam, who you might remember lost to Marcus Willis in Wimbledon qualifying, are teaming up in the mixed doubles.

And it's all going smoothly. They are a set and a break up in their match against Dutch pair Wesley Koolhof and Demi Schurrs.

    Nadal 6-1 6-4 4-4 Khachanov

Hello, break point against Rafa Nadal. He whips a serve through but it's called just out, and he then saves the break with a bizarre second serve ace!

Khachanov has a big swing and a miss at a 100mph serve. Very unusual. He just missed the ball. He's angry about it and he crunches a sensational winner next down the line. That was travelling!

Second break point. Saved by a big serve from Rafa. Rafa is then wide to offer out a third break point, saved again!

And he holds in the end.

Heather Watson is going to be sick of the sight of Victoria Azarenka by the end of today. Especially if she loses to the Belarusian again...

Little under two hours since they met in the singles on Centre, the pair are facing each other again in the less luxurious outside courts. Snug.

Watson and Finland's Henri Kontinen, the defending champions, are taking on Azarenka and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic in the mixed doubles.

A glimmer of a sniff of a chance on Centre as Karen Khachanov forces deuce on the Nadal serve, but he's too hot.

He even comes to the net to clinch the game with a deft volley.
