  4. 'Court could suit Fognini'published at 18:15 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Murray v Fognini

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Fognini's backhand is a solid stroke, he is very consistent on it. When he gets hot he can be deadly. He is one of the quickest guys on court around. He will have opportunities against Murray.

He knows that the more time he gets, the more chance he has. The courts are bouncing higher and playing slower and that will suit him - he is a clay-court specialist.

This one could get a bit feisty.

Italian Fabio Fognini is partial to a bit of racquet throwing if things are not going his way. In 2014, his conduct at Wimbledon, which included a couple of outbursts during his first round match, saw him pick a $27,500 fine for 'unsportsmanlike conduct'.

We bumped into Andy Murray's former coach Brad Gilbert earlier while giving a tour of the grounds on our Facebook page, external.

Gilbert is feeling confident that Murray can get the job done nice and quickly today.

"I like Andy in straight sets," he said. "I think he's looked really good in the first couple of rounds and I expect him to get better.

"This tournament is all about the big four and it will continue to be like that."

  8. Fognini ready for Murraypublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Murray v Fognini

Two of Andy Murray's more chastening defeats of recent years have come at the hands of Fabio Fognini, but this time the Scot has the surface and home advantage on his side.

The pair, both 30, first played each other when they were 12 and share a 3-3 record as professionals.

Fognini played superbly to beat Murray in the Davis Cup three years ago and at the Italian Open two months ago, but those contests were on the clay of Naples and Rome.

"If I play like that, it could be interesting," said Fognini.

The Italian has never been past the third round at Wimbledon and will make his Centre Court debut today.

"Of course, he's the favourite," Fognini added. "I know my game. I know how to play against him. We know each other really well. I'm ready."

  9. 'He's really, really tough to beat'published at 18:08 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Murray v Fognini

Andy Murray is wary of Fabio Fognini, whose flashy shotmaking could cause the Brit some problems.

"He's always dangerous," said Murray. "He's very solid off his forehand and backhand side, but he can also hit winners from both sides.

"He moves extremely well on the other surfaces. I don't know how well he moves on the grass but he certainly can play well. He's started the tournament well here so I expect it to be very tough. When Fabio is switched on, he's really, really tough to beat."

  13. Keep on moving, don't stop no...published at 18:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

How many times do you think the Wimbledon staff on the path that leads up the side of Murray Mound have to ask spectators to "keep moving" or tell them "no standing"?

About a thousand times an hour, according to Sydney the smiling security guard, who says on 999 of those occasions, the punters do as they are told.

The exceptions? Er, that would include people like me. "Would the gentleman in the green t-shirt please stop taking photos and sit down, I know you can hear me," yells one of Sydney's colleagues a few moments later. Sorry about that!
