    *Murray 4-2 Fognini

You get the feeling Fognini is not going to get too many chances on the Murray serve. He has a sniff of a chance at 30-30 and a spell of delicate, precision tennis eventually sees Murray dink one out of play.

Fognini has his first break point, and a chance for an immediate break back, but some perfect placement from Murray sees the opportunity evaporate. Deuce.

Murray didn't have to do an awful lot in that game - there were three unforced errors from Fognini.

It has taken us six games, and we finally have our first break point. And Murray takes care of it, as Fognini can only pump a forehand into the net.

It's great to see Heather Watson grinning again so soon after going out of the singles - and at least she can say she has beaten Victoria Azarenka once today.

The Belarusian beat her on Centre Court earlier but Watson has won this time - in the mixed doubles on court two where she teamed up with Henri Kontinen again to begin the defence of their title with a 6-3 6-4 win over Azarenka and Nenad Zimonjic.

Watson whooped with delight after Kontinen converted their first match-point, and was all smiles as she did signings and selfies with her fans on her way off court.

It is his first time on Centre Court, and it has been a faultless performance so far from Fabio Fognini.

He gets it to 30-30, but he can't do anything about a couple of beautiful serves from Murray to finish off the fifth game. Murray leads as we remain on serve.

    *Murray 2-2 Fognini

It has been a lovely day at Wimbledon, with a quarter of the court still in bright sunshine.

It leaves those in that corner desperately trying to shield the sun from their eyes. The fourth game is a routine hold from Fognini, with the two men seeing what the other is capable of at the moment.

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Me and John McEnroe both won Wimbledon [at least] three times and that's what Andy Murray is going for now.

You don't get nervous, but you feel the pressure, you feel that time is running out. The older I got I kept thinking how many years have I got left? Who's playing well at the moment? What's the draw like?

The beauty of being young is that you don't think about the future. But he will be now.

A soft drop shot in game three from Fognini sends Andy Murray scampering up to the net, and he cannot keep his resulting shot on the run in play.

That gives Fognini a hint of a break at 15-30, but the door is soon closed in his face with Murray doing the rest. We are on serve so far, with neither player facing a break point yet.

Murray, by the way, is aiming to move into the last 16 at Wimbledon for the 10th successive year.

Venus Williams wipes her brow with a towel, most likely because of the heat but also probably because she is being given a fair old workout by young Naomi Osaka.

It's 3-3 in the second set, no-one giving an inch.

    *Murray 1-1 Fognini

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Fognini can use his excellent footwork to move in and put shots away. Murray's slice approach shots are not going to work as well against him.

He can rise to the occasion, but you never know what Fognini is thinking - he expresses himself.

Heather Watson was dumped out by Victoria Azarenka this morning but she has taken a small piece of revenge with victory in the mixed doubles.

    *Murray 1-1 Fognini

Murray takes the opening two points off of Fognini's serve, but is forced wide from a serve and the Italian, waiting at the net, then has the whole court to aim at to pull it back to 15-30.

The Italian then holds his serve later on as a Murray forehand hits the top of the net.

I think Fabio Fognini is one of the most talented players on the tour. A lot of the top players seem to want to practise with him because they are so impressed with his game.

I saw him in Rome earlier in the year and he drop-shot Murray off the court.

For me, Fognini is the Johnny Depp of tennis - he is a swashbuckling pirate - I can see him in a Pirates of the Caribbean film. I feel like he should have some hooped earrings in to go with 'the look'.

Andy Murray takes the first three points of the match, before gifting Fognini one with a double fault, but the Italian soon sends a backhand into the net as Murray comfortably holds first off.
