What to make of Fognini so far? At times he looks disinterested, at times he has been brilliant. Fognini took the opening game of set two, but has lost the next two and Murray leads.

Can Murray increase the Italian's pain and cause more petulant moments?

  4. Wrong score spotted by the crowdpublished at 19:04 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Blimey, this can't happen often - they have got the score wrong at an important point in the third set in Jamie Murray's match on court 18 and it is the players' box (well corner in this case) who spot it and alert Sam Groth and Robert Lindstedt - Groth then goes to tell the umpire it is 40-30 to them, not Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares.

The umpire agrees, changes the score, and leaves the rest of them crowd confused. "There was a scoreboard problem, we all agree with the score," the umpire explains, although he doesn't mention he was also reading it out incorrectly.

    *Murray 6-2 1-1 Fognini

We said he could be a bit temperamental and we have just seen it from Fognini. A wild forehand gives Murray an immediate break back, and the Italian hurls his racquet to the floor in disgust. Temper, temper.

He gets a warning from the umpire, and Fognini's advantage lasted less than five minutes, now we are back on serve.

He looked to have given up in the first set, but Fognini has just fooled us all and was just saving his energy.

The Italian takes the first game of the second set, against the serve, winning it with a beautiful slice backhand drop shot that leaves Murray floundering.

Unpredictable is how the Italian is looking, the sort of player that can be a real handful to play against.

    *Murray 6-2 0-0 Fognini

An overhead smash from Fognini after an attempted Murray lob could be the spark that the Italian needs to raise his spirits.

And maybe we wrote the Italian off too soon. He has a break point in the opening game of set two.

Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

The problem with Fabio Fognini is that he is very inward. If you look at him you wonder how on earth did that just happen?

He is a talented, competent, professional player and then you get the feeling that he just wanted to end the set. In a few minutes it's all over.

He is wound up and he is not performing. How does he get out of this?

  14. First set statisticspublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    *Murray 6-2 Fognini

This is the story of the first set. It looked like it would be a challenge for Murray, but in the end he has moved a set ahead with not too much fuss.

A dozen unreturned serves in the first set for the world number one and he is already in the driving seat.

    Murray 6-2 Fognini

David Beckham has been at Centre Court all day, and is in no mood to move from his seat.

The match started quite comfortably for Fognini but the wheels have come off for the Italian, who already is showing signs of looking like a beaten man.

He loses his serve with a game to love, handing Murray the second set with a double fault.

He really doesn't want to be on the back foot.

    Osaka 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 Williams

Venus Williams has done it. The five-times Wimbledon champion sees off Naomi Osaka in straight sets - 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.

Williams finished with a flourish, an ace sealing the match, but take nothing away from Oaska. The 19-year-old made her veteran opponent work for the win.

    Murray 5-2 Fognini*

That was the only break point Murray has faced so far and he dealt with it comfortably.

Fognini then sends one wide and, rather desperately, challenges the decision. It looked out, it was out, and Murray holds.

The Italian with a lot to do to save this first set.
