    *Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-5 Garcia

Caroline Garcia's dad is trying some not-so-sneaky coaching tips from the box. He crosses over his fingers to make an 'x' and does some odd stretching, twisting his hands about. Coaching from the box isn't allowed at a Grand Slam...

Mr Garcia applauds as Caroline rounds off a stonking service game. She's a game away from the second set.

Those who don't know Benoit Paire - he's 28 and hasn't been past the fourth round of one of the big four.

He's also sporting what some would class as a hipster beard. Isn't that very 2016?

Back to the action, Murray to serve first.

The forehand of Konta is starting to break down a bit. There's a long way still to go but the challenge system has not been kind to her today, a couple of crucial moments.

  4. Garcia gets double breakpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-4 Garcia*

Three break points to Caroline Garcia! Konta's forehand is going all sorts of wrong.

She rescues the first with a straight backhand, and the second with a big serve that a diving Garcia spears wide.

Ace! It's called in, Garcia challenges - and it's out! We replay the point and this time Garcia gets the double break as a Konta backhand is driven wide.

  5. Murray v Paire coming uppublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

On the scheduling - four men's matches and two women's matches on the show courts:

This is the best day of the year. Regarding the scheduling, it's difficult. Somebody has to be on the show courts and somebody has to be on the court two.

    On Murray v Paire:

In all likelihood the Frenchman will see the effects of playing on Centre Court. It'll be interesting to see how Murray does after his match against Fabio Fognini. In the second week, in order to defend his title he will have to improve a little bit.

The players come out to a huge cheer on Centre Court. We are moments away...

    *Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-3 Garcia

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

It's thirsty work this. Playing, and watching, tennis. While Konta and Garcia have a glug of water/diluted juice at the changeover, the calm air is pierced by a couple of popping champagne corks in the posh seats.

Not much to celebrate for the home fans as the French 21st seed edges ahead.

    *Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-3 Garcia

There's a gentle breeze wandering across Court One and it throws Garcia momentarily off her serve.

She gets her groove back with an ace down the T, and the Frenchwoman comes charging towards the net to tap a shank from Konta back over. That's the sort of sprinting Usain Bolt would be proud of.

And Garcia consolidates her break with a tidy hold.

Garbine Muguruza makes her exit from court two after booking her place in the quarter-finals. She definitely deserves that applause.

  9. Garcia breakspublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-2 Garcia*

Frustration from Konta, chuntering furiously up to her box, as she overworks a forehand.

Advantage Garcia - and an "Allez!" echoes around Court One as Konta loosely slaps a return into the net.

    Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-1 Garcia*

An overhead from Garcia beats Konta, but the Brit gets on the board with a cross court winner.

Garcia hops to the side as Konta goes wide with the serve again, but she can only lash the return wide, standing on one leg like a flamingo.

Break point Garcia, as Konta gets herself in a spin trying to pick up from the baseline, but a supreme second serve takes us to deuce. That's the fourth break point the Brit has saved.

Five-time winner Venus Williams is into the last eight after a routine 6-3 6-2 win over Croatia's Ana Konjuh.

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

She clung on valiantly but Angelique Kerber's defeat by Garbine Muguruza means the German's time at the top of the rankings will end next Monday.

If Simona Halep can reach the semi-finals, she will take over, which means beating Victoria Azarenka today and Johanna Konta or Caroline Garcia on Tuesday. If the Romanian fails, Czech Karolina Pliskova becomes the new world number one.

    *Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-1 Garcia

From 40-0 to 40-40. What's Garcia got here?

A wristy bit of work hands the French player the advantage and she draws the error out of Konta to hold her serve.

  14. Postpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    *Konta 7-6 (7-3) 1-0 Garcia

Konta gets down on one knee, as though she's about to propose marriage, and leathers her return wide.

Garcia steadies herself and curls a forehand beyond Konta - plenty of fury behind that whack - to race to 40-0 but Konta steals two points as Garcia overhits two returns.

And now a double fault takes us to deuce!

Konta just handled the big moments better, was more solid, more sturdy. Even after being bothered by the Hawk-Eye challenge. She lost the next game but was then able to get back to work. So much of the mental work she has done over the last two years came into play.

Konta Knoll. The campaign starts here.

A very good service game from the Brit to open up this second set, Garcia firing returns long to the left and then the right. She has a quick word with the umpire as she wanders over to her chair.

  17. 'Equal prize money - why not equal representation?'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    BBC Radio 5 live

Former world number one Chris Evert on today's scheduling: "There needs to be a discussion on the scheduling a little bit more clearly. It’s equal prize money so why not equal representation on Centre Court and Court number One?

"Instead of four men’s matches and two women’s, I would like to see it three and three, and I think any woman would like to see it that way.

"There have been years where women have been more marquee than the men’s players. Unfortunately for the women, this year the top four men are very high in marquee value. It’s hard to dispute putting Djokovic on court number two.

"I wonder about that argument because there’s been years where the women have been more attractive to watch, with bigger names, and it’s still gone four men and two women."

To Richard Lewis [see 12:46], that is an unsatisfactory response. Look back at the times Wimbledon has put Serena on court 2. Or do you want to tell me Djokovic is a better "tennis player"? The women play on centre court for the QF and SF, but the men do exactly the same (so this is no special treatment to the women like you make it out to be). You say it's more controversial to put Djokovic on court 2 than Kerber. Would you like to qualify that statement? Neither are in their prime form, but Kerber is world number 1. Djokovic plays Mannarino, who is ranked outside the top 50 and whose best result is the last 16 here. Kerber plays Muguruza, a top 20 player, French Open champion and Wimbledon finalist. Finally, to the BBC, if you would like this to be a balanced argument and not left hanging in favour of the men, then you should either post this or send this message to the chief executive.

That defeat means of course that Angelique Kerber loses her number one status, well, she will after the tournament anyway.

It also means that she won't play on Centre Court. Who's up for some more court equality debate?

    Konta 7-6 (7-3) Garcia

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

The biggest cheer of the afternoon greets that ripper of a forehand winner which puts Konta 4-1 ahead in the breaker.

The biggest until she bangs down that set-clinching 108mph ace, that is.

Supplemented by the roar, of course, from those gathered a stone's throw over the stand away on Konta Knoll.

Konta Knoll. That's not going to catch on. Is it?
