  1. 'Cilic going for too much'published at 14:38 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

I feel like Marin Cilic wants to go for a bit too much now, he's overhitting it.

Roger Federer has a little bit more freedom on the shots, he's a break up, he can take more chances.

Suddenly Federer throws in a 89mph first serve and Cilic doesn't come into it. You need to be aggressive.

A break of serve means little without backing it up with a hold. Roger Federer doesn't need telling that.

The 18-time Grand Slam champion pings off a service game in about the time it takes to warm up a bowl of porridge in the microwave.

A hold to love, 11 of the 13 points since Cilic's break opportunity. Tasty.

  4. 'Cilic mistakes handed Federer the break'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Pat Cash
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

Cilic had been the better player until that game. Federer came up with a flicked backhand in that one, although he didn't have to do much more.

Federer breaks Cilic in the first set

Here's our first turning point. After saving a break point, Federer continues where he left off to rattle out six straight points.

    That means three break points.

One goes when Federer lumps a backhand long.

The second? Also wasted when Federer thinks about the SABR - (Sneak Attack By Roger), decides against the charge and awkwardly knocks long with the forehand.

    But the third? Gobbled up.

  6. 'Federer slowing the pace'published at 14:33 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

It looks like Roger Federer has slowed down the pace in the last couple of rallies. He is just happy bouncing back the ball.

    Federer 2-2 Cilic*

Chance gone for Marin Cilic. And Centre Court is relieved.

The Croat seventh seed slaps a forehand into the net as Federer forces deuce, the Swiss going on to win as Cilic hits a pair of backhands into the net.

    He's off the hook.

  9. Break point for Cilicpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    *Federer 1-2 Cilic

We know Federer likes to race out of the blocks to stamp his authority... but it is Cilic who is exerting the early pressure.

Another double fault by the Swiss is followed by a sliced backhand into the net... break point to Cilic!

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

There is no doubt when you look at the worn patches on the court, with the players coming to the net far less frequently, where they serve and just inside the baseline is going to take a bit of a hammering,

  11. Cilic holds servepublished at 14:24 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    *Federer 1-2 Cilic

Marin Cilic needs another stomach-settler of a service game. And that's what he gets with a hold to 15.

Federer cracks a forehand from the baseline into the net for 40-15, then knocks another long.

Cilic clenches his fist, then stares long and hard at his box. I think that means he is happy.

There's a slightly better view for Hugh Grant, Bradley Cooper, Michael McIntyre and Justin Rose up in the Royal Box, but not quite the same atmosphere as Henman Hill.

Not everyone up on Henman Hill has a very good view of the big screen so it is just as well you don't have to be able to see the action to know what is going on.

If the Hill is quiet, Cilic won that point, if it applauds, it's because Federer did but, if the Hill starts screaming and getting really excited, then it's because Fed has challenged a call on an important point... and won.

    Federer 1-1 Cilic*

Federer is pumped. We've already heard a couple of exclamations of "Let's go!" - in Swiss-German, of course - as he battles his way onto the scoreboard.

One comes after Federer leaps into the air to wallop a forehand to the green canvas for 30-30, but a groan comes from the whole of Centre as he double faults.

Deuce for the second time in the opening two games. Cilic has a sniff, but Federer palms him off.

  17. First game goes to Cilicpublished at 14:15 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    *Federer 0-1 Cilic

Marin Cilic looks a little tight as he opens up the match - exactly as Roger Federer thought.

The Swiss maestro wanted to pounce on the Croat's serve to ramp up some early scoreboard pressure, and that's what he does.

30-30 becomes deuce, Cilic's forehand not flowing. But the Croatian battles back, forcing Federer into a couple of rogue backhands as Cilic holds.

    Federer 0-0 Cilic

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Marin Cilic has served 130 aces this Wimbledon and there are many more to come.

We don't count the forced errors that come with his great serve either. Also his second serve, in that department he is strong as well.

Chair umpire Damien Dumusois makes himself heard for the first time today.

Here we go. A deafening roar greets the players as they walk to their respective baselines.
