The final announcement is made on Centre Court: "Ladies and gentlemen, that brings us to the end of the championships."

And with that, it brings us to the end of our live text coverage... but go on, just one more treat, let's have a look back at those eight Wimbledon titles for Roger Federer.

If you watch these over and over again it might just give you your SW19 fix until next summer.

    We'll catch you then...

  3. 'There will be a void when Roger retires'published at 18:34 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Ultimately, the only person who can stop Federer is himself. He will know when it is time to do something else.

I hope he continues for a couple more years, because tennis needs him – he is the number one ambassador for our sport and there isn’t anything more fascinating than him playing some of the younger guys coming through.

But he will have to retire at some point, and when it happens of course there is going to be a void.

But the longer Federer plays for, it gives the younger generation more time to adjust and to get better and eventually someone will be ready to take over that mantle.

There was a void after Pete Sampras before he arrived, and in tennis you never know where the next superstar is going to appear from.

  5. Who can stop Roger from making it nine Wimbledon titles next year?published at 18:30 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Grass is a bit more complicated because it is difficult to play on and you can’t really practice on it through the year.

The rest of the year, I find the new generation of players really knocking on the door hard – Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios, Dominic Thiem and a couple of Russians I have seen around who are all really really good too.

The difference, the margin, between them gets closer and closer – even Milos Raonic, who is 26 – that is not old either. Milos is having a difficult year but he has the ability with his serve to play really well at Wimbledon.

But I think Roger is really pushing the boundaries for how long and how much can you play on into your 30s and I think it is really a wake-up call for Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic that there is life after 30.

Roger Federer has won five titles this year - including two Slams - which is more than any other man. And he missed the entire clay-court season...

"Honestly I'm incredibly surprised how well this year is going, how well I'm feeling, as well, how things are turning out to be on the courts, how I'm managing tougher situations, where my level of play is on a daily basis. I am surprised that it's this good," she said.

"I knew I could do great again maybe one day, but not at this level. So I guess you would have laughed, too, if I told you I was going to win two slams this year. "

  8. 'I was glad my Briton won' - Hingispublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

Wimbledon mixed doubles title winner Martina Hingis speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm really happy how we played and performed. One Briton was going to win a Wimbledon title this year and I was hoping it would be mine.

    Will they return next year?

"We have the next Grand Slam coming up and we have to talk about that."

  9. It's great to have the trophy again - Murraypublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Murray/Hingis 6-4 6-4 Kontinen/Watson

One half of the winning Wimbledon mixed doubles pair, Jamie Murray: "It was a bit strange, the crowd was a bit split with Heather and I, but it was a great success for British tennis to have two guys in the final.

"We've had a great week, played some great tennis and we knew we'd have to have a good match in the final to win."

On joining Martina Hingis: "I forgot what it felt like the last time I won! This was pretty sweet and I have to give huge thanks to Martina - when she text me it was an easy decision and it's great to have the trophy again.

"A lot of guys in the locker room would be jumping at the chance to join Martina!"

Roger Federer on what winning a record eighth Wimbledon means to him: "Wimbledon was always my favourite tournament, will always be my favourite tournament.

"My heroes walked the grounds here and walked the courts here. Because of them, I think I became a better player, too.

"To mark history here at Wimbledon really means a lot to me just because of all of that really. It's that simple."

  11. 'I want to defend my title next year'published at 18:21 British Summer Time 16 July 2017

    Federer 6-3 6-1 6-4 Cilic

Roger Federer might be knocking on in tennis terms but he's got no intention of hanging up his racquet yet.

"I do think probably like a year ahead of time, you know, with my schedule, fitness schedule, tournaments I would like to play. So I totally see myself playing here this time next year," he says.

"But because it's far away, because of what happened last year, I just like to take the opportunity to thank the people in the very moment, and make them understand, yes, I hope that I'm back. There's never a guarantee, especially not at 35, 36."But the goal is definitely to be here again next year to try and defend."
