    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 4-3 Basilashvili*

Those backing the Georgian have woken up from their heat-induced snooze in the crowd. Basilashvili gets a great reception as he takes the first point. Even Basilashvili's coach has an ice towel around his neck. He's not even playing!

Well done, Kyle Edmund. He sees another winner whistle by but closes out the game with an ace out wide.

Apologies if you were hoping to listen to online radio commentary of this final set. Unfortunately we can't get the connection to work. We're working on it and in the meantime will do our very best via the text updates to keep you up to speed with what's going on.

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 3-3 Basilashvili

Fair play to Nikoloz Basilashvili. He must be sick of serving by now but, facing probable defeat if he lost his serve, he digs really deep to see off Edmund's challenge.

We're still on serve in the decider. Remember Kyle Edmund has already come through one five-setter in this tournament.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 3-2 Basilashvili*

Edmund nips in with another point. He now has two break points.

The first goes begging. What can he do on the second?

  5. Postpublished at 03:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 3-2 Basilashvili*

Is this Kyle Edmund's moment? Two big returns of serve and he has 0-30 on the Basilashvili.

A big opening. The crowd, with what energy they have left, roar him on.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 3-2 Basilashvili*

The net cord is on Kyle Edmund's side today. A lengthy point at 30-15 ends with the ball popping up off the tape half court so the Yorkshireman can blast away the short ball.

It's crazy how good these two are playing this fifth set. Edmund thuds another winner, grimaces and slowly hobbles his way back to his chair.

Who are you backing from here?

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 2-2 Basilashvili

This is some of the best tennis of the match now. Aces off the racket of Basilashvili and an 85mph winner from Kyle Edmund with plenty of top spin.

Anything you can do... Basilashvili responds with a forehand winner of his own - it's actually even faster.

Basilashvili levels again. This is going to be a battle.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 2-1 Basilashvili*

Whichever way this goes I don't think there'll be many long points in this set. Edmund races into a 40-0 before some big-hitting from Basilashvili sees the Georgian's interest in the game perk up.

Another winner. This one off the strings off Edmund. He fights off that revival.

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 1-1 Basilashvili

That's impressive, really impressive. These players have played almost three hours in almost 40C but Kyle Edmund still has the energy to skip around the ball and whack a forehand winner.

Basilashvili responds with an ace. Now the players exchange points. 30-30.

Another ace. And another. Equally Impressive from Basilashvili. I've no idea which way this is going.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 1-0 Basilashvili*

Strong start to the set from Kyle Edmund as he races to 40-0 but Basilashvili is already showing more fight in these early points of the decider than in the fifth set.

He crunches a winner before a powerful return brings us back to 40-30.

Good from Edmund. He serves it out. His nose is in front.

  11. Postpublished at 03:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

Both players head off the court at the end of the set. A reminder it's 39 degrees on court.

Kyle Edmund reappears and places an ice towel around his neck and has another towel over his legs.

Edmund will serve first. A one-set shoot out in some of the worst conditions he'll ever play in. Win it and he'll reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for just the second time...

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 Basilashvili

So all of the momentum is with Edmund after that 6-0 set but it was clear Nikoloz Basilashvili was just saving energy from early on in that set.

Can the Georgian up his game again? It's all good saving something for the decider but it's not as straightforward as just switching your A-game back on when you need it.

That said you'd be doing well to play at your F-game in these conditions, never mind 'A'.

You need head cover on a day as hot as this. Some spectators have gone for the classic wet flannel on the head.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 6-0 Basilashvili

Basilashvili is not interested in putting up a fight here.

    Two set points for Edmund.

The first goes wide and so does the second. Basilashvili almost looks annoyed that he's got to serve a few more points.

Here's set point number three for Edmund... double fault.

    Into a fifth we go.

Both players have towels around their necks and both look like they are almost in a trance. It's quite worrying when you have matches like this in these kind of temperatures.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 5-0 Basilashvili*

It's either winner or bust for Nikoloz Basilashvili now. He's just swinging his racket in a hope to make the points as short as possible.

It comes off once but a mix of Edmund winners and Basilashvili unforced errors sees the Briton take the game.

The next game is merely a formality, it seems, until the gladiatorial battle of a decider. 5-0 to Edmund.

  17. Postpublished at 02:51 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2018

    *Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 4-0 Basilashvili

The momentum is all with Kyle Edmund. Basilashvili's intensity has dropped big time at the back of the court. Kyle Edmund thumps a couple of returns and his opponent can't handle it.

Basilashvili goes long with a regulation backhand. Edmund is on a roll. He breaks again.

Basilashvili just saving himself for a decider?

Charmaine and Lauren are persevering with these despite being "roasting." They are only keeping them on because they're scared how their hair looks underneath.

    Edmund 7-6 (7-0) 3-6 4-6 3-0 Basilashvili*

That's exactly what Kyle Edmund needed. He storms through his service game and after that marathon effort on his serve a few minutes ago all of the pressure is back on Basilashvili.

He's going to have a few minutes to compose himself in his chair but the Georgian is looking very red out there now.

There's a standing ovation for Edmund. It took him 20 minutes to break. This is one of the most bizarre matches I've commented on. Now hold your serve after all that!
