Kyle Edmund is struggling to stay in a rally, stretched to his limit behind the baseline, but it's Grigor Dimitrov who blinks first as his backhand volley fizzes out of bounds.

Kyle Edmund is limping a touch. Or that might just be how he walks, I'm not sure. Tennis players do stroll around extra carefully.

There's a brief pause in play as a bird comes floating down to inspect Grigor Dimitrov's serve. The Bulgarian blasts a forehand winner on his way to a love hold.

There has clearly been a tactical decision made by Team Edmund to approach the net far more than is usual for the hard-hitting baseliner, and he already has 17 winners up at the net. Tim Henman will be impressed in the front row.

However, when the crunch moment came on break point, he failed to follow in some bludgeoning forehands and Dimitrov wrestled the point away from him.

    Dimitrov 4-6 6-3 1-2 Edmund*

Kyle Edmund's been very strong up at the net today - first the backhand volley wrong-foots Dimitrov, and then he has quick hands to dink the forehand over. Coach Rosengren approves.

Oh! Edmund throws everything but the kitchen sink at a forehand winner - here's break point...

An outrageous return from Grigor Dimitov!

A nibble off the net cord looks to have beaten him but he comes darting forward, sliding and thrusting his racquet forward to flick over a volley that Edmund can't respond to.

Edmund cracks down a fiery ace in response for 40-30, but a loopy backhand from the Brit goes out of bounds.

If Edmund can find his 'A' game, he is capable of winning this match - or at least this set.

There have been 22 forehand errors from Kyle Edmund so far.

That is a real big confidence booster when you were down in that game. This is the time where Kyle needs to step in here. Mentally he needs to be really focused and disciplined here.

    Alrighty then.

An emphatic start from Kyle Edmund is cancelled out by back-to-back unforced errors. The final one is the worst, an easy forehand going long to hand Dimitrov a break point.

A pacey first serve saves the Brit.
