    *Cilic 6-2 1-1 Edmund

Kyle Edmund is back on serve and gets a big round of applause when he starts with a couple of big forehand winners.

A cheeky flick of the wrist on the backhand completely outsmarts Cilic and one big serve later, Edmund has his first hold to love.

A perfect start to the second set.

  2. Is Kyle injured?published at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

I'm a bit worried now. Kyle didn't really move for that first point and was there a bit of a hobble after the second?

He's obviously had something done to him off court. If he's had a painkiller that can take 15 minutes to work. He just needs to hang in there until then and hopefully then he'll be OK.

  3. Cilic holds to lovepublished at 09:22 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Cilic 6-2 1-0 Edmund*

Cilic starts with a banger of a winner, deep in the corner.

A hold to love follows. The Wimbledon finalist is all over Edmund like a pesky rash.

  6. Edmund on the backfootpublished at 09:19 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Piers Newbery

When you contain Edmund to just one forehand winner and three errors in a set, you are on the right track, and that was exactly the kind of authoritative start Cilic would have wanted. Edmund won just 50% of points on his serve, and that is not going to cut it.

Andy Murray is among those to have pointed out in the past that, despite being a big server, Cilic has a very underrated return.

It looks like Cilic is just a bit sharper, his feet are working so fast and the forehand is too. It seems Edmund is just a step slow.

Edmund has worked so hard on his backhand to make it more attacking, especially the shot down the line, and he'll need that today.
