    *Cilic 2-2 Edmund

This was always going to be a slog-a-thon between two big servers and they're pushing each other every inch of the way.

At 30-30, the pair go into battle in opposing corners. Edmund stretches on the forehand, slips the ball over the net and Cilic can't return it.

The British number two then serves it out. Nicely done.

Kyle has to get Cilic moving because Cilic is a big fella and isn't the best mover. He's got to be aggressive.

So can Kyle win? It's all anyone has asked me around Melbourne park today, foolishly thinking I might know.

He has certainly made an impact over the last 11 days in Melbourne - the Edmund forehand is rivalling Hyeon Chung's glasses for most-talked-about-feature of this year's tournament. The local TV coverage has described him as an excellent cricketer and "massive" Pharrell Williams fan.

All the talk is about his improved serve and huge forehand, but there has been as much work done on the return and his backhand down the line has worked beautifully all tournament.

    Cilic 2-1 Edmund*

It's hard to tell who the crowd are backing here - it feels pretty even.

Edmund gets a round of applause for a backhand winner up the line to make it 30-15 and they moan with him when he messes up on the next point by hitting long.

    Cilic goes on to hold.

Edmund needs to breathe and calm down a bit. He's going at things too quickly because of his nerves.

    *Cilic 1-1 Edmund

Erm, that's not ideal. Edmund starts with a double fault.

The British number two gets off the mark when Cilic plants a backhand wide.

Edmund then has a word with chair umpire John Blom after being given a foot fault. He's not happy about it.

After adjusting his cap and taking a breath, he overpowers Cilic with his serve to hold.

Cilic just about held it together in that first game. There's not much between these two and if Edmund can get his big forehand into the corners he's got a very good chance to win this match.

  11. Break points savedpublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Cilic 0-0 Edmund*

Both break points are saved thanks to Cilic's mammoth serve.

    To deuce we go...

Cilic takes the advantage but he slaps the net on the next point. The Croatian hasn't settled into this game very well so far.

  12. Two break points for Edmundpublished at 08:40 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Cilic 0-0 Edmund*

Marin Cilic bounces the ball about 18 times before his opening serve.

His first attempt is a dud, his second is better but Kyle Edmund snatches the point with a forehand. That'll do!

And all of a sudden, Edmund has two break points after a clean forehand winner.

They will both be anxious and a little bit tight at the start. You think Cilic with more experience will be better but Kyle almost has nothing to lose and should be able to hit a bit more freely.

Cilic knows he blew the Wimbledon final against Federer. He will remember that and be really tight.

  16. Hit after hitpublished at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Edmund v Cilic

If you've not seen Kyle Edmund play much before then you should know that his big weapon is his forehand.

He's hit 127 winners on his right-hand side coming into this semi-final, compared to 115 from Cilic.

"I keep working on my forehand," said Edmund on Eurosport.

"It’s important that the good stuff keeps on getting better.

"It’s that constant look for improvement. That’s what you try and do with all your shots.

"It’s always been my strongest weapon. It’s not how I strike it, it’s what I do with it and how I use it to my advantage."

But he's going to have to contend with a big serve and speedy backhand from Marin Cilic. He's thrown down 96 aces to Edmund's 78.

  17. 'Kyle can be a top-10 player'published at 08:35 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Edmund v Cilic

    Thomas Johansson
Former Australian Open champion speaking to BBC Radio 5 live

Kyle's looking great. He's hitting the ball very heavy, and you could easily see he's playing with a lot of confidence.

So far I'm very, very impressed with what he's achieved here. The amount of power that he can create from a ball that has no energy is quite amazing.

I think he serves a lot better now, I think he can be a little bit more aggressive and take the net more than he does.

He's hitting the ball so heavy, so hard, and as soon as he gets hold of the opponent with the forehand, it's lethal. But I know that's something they are working on.

If you asked me today, I would say he can definitely be a top-10 player.

  20. What can Marin bring?published at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2018

    Edmund v Cilic

    Thomas Johansson
Former Australian Open champion speaking to BBC Radio 5 live

Marin has been here before, won a Slam and knows what it's like to play a semi-final. The surface is quite fast and I think Marin is going to try to play very aggressively.

Marin has more experience but I know what Kyle is capable of. The start of the match is important, especially for Kyle, but if he can get a good start I think he has a huge chance.
