    Ramos-Vinolas 0-0 Broady*

Not an ideal start for the Brits - Liam Broady coughs up a double fault first up.

There's a big British contingent in the crowd, and they make their presence known as Broady pushes Ramos-Vinolas wide and draws the error out of his return.

Better serving from Broady, forcing Ramos-Vinolas to net his forehand, but he makes a mess of a serve and volley for 40-40.

    Ramos-Vinolas v Broady

High-fives all round as Liam Broady nips back to his bench for a last-minute swig of water.

It'll be Broady to serve first. He's almost swamped by the shadows of the palm trees that are creeping onto court.

This is very tough for Britain. Liam Broady is a very compact player and his groundstrokes are excellent but he doesn't have a huge weapon. He does a lot of things very well.

There's plenty of Davis Cup action today - France begin their title defence against the Netherlands shortly, while second seeds Belgium play Hungary.

Australia and Germany have finished their first round of rubbers: Alexander Zverev put Germany ahead with a five-set win over Alex de Minaur, before Nick Kyrgios beat Jan-Lennard Struff in one hour and 37 minutes.

    Spain v GB

Kyle Edmund, who had an extraordinary run at the Australian Open last week, has not been named in any of this weekend's rubbers.

He was visibly struggling with his hip during his Melbourne semi-final against Marin Cilic, and still had a "few niggles" when he arrived in Marbella.

He will remain in the squad - he's just belted out the national anthem along with the rest of his team-mates - and could be drafted in to play should his injury situation improve.

Welcome to the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella on the sunny south coast of Spain.

Great Britain’s Davis Cup debutants Liam Broady and Cameron Norrie have been knocking up before an incredibly daunting challenge for them today - Spain have won 27 of their past 28 Davis Cup ties on clay.

Both British players said yesterday that all the pressure is on the Spaniards as they are the big favourites for the tie but make no mistake this is going to be a very tough day on the clay.
