It's always difficult to get a first-round win at Grand Slams, particularly in Serena's case. She hasn't been here for two years, played only a few matches. Serena will be very happy to bring this home. You can see how much she wants it, and it is nice to have her back.
Norrie 1-0 Bedene*
Solid start for Cameron Norrie as he holds serve against Aljaz Bedene.
The narrow stands spanning the outside of this one are jam-packed at the minute.
Enjoying some evening sunshine in SW19.
S Williams 7-5 6-3 Rus
Up next for Serena is the winner of Tereza Smitkova v Viktoriya Tomova.
Bedene v Norrie.

Back down on terra firma, I’ve managed to bag a seat for this match.
How? It’s because I’m directly facing the sun.
So we have Brit Cameron Norrie against ex-Brit Aljaz Bedene.
Nice early evening match to whet the appetite.
S Williams 7-5 6-3 Rus
Yes she can!
724 days since her last win at SW19, Serena Williams is through to the second round.
That wasn't easy for Serena, and Rus played some excellent offensive shots, but the American is over the first hurdle.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Opportunity number six has come along for Serena.
Can she close it out this time?
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Ooft!
Serena Williams goes for a serve out wide, misses, and then her second serve is sent rocketing past her by Arantxa Rus.
Deuce.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
"COME ON!"
That'll be match point number five for Serena...
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
This is genuinely superb defence from Arantxa Rus.
She nails successive returns on the baseline and Serena, going cross-court again, hits up and out.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Now that's a better serve from Serena.
Match point number four.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Serena topples once again, throwing herself backwards as she tries to find the big winner, and she helps the ball over the baseline.
Deuce.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Serena overbalances as she returns a forehand, the ball wobbling off the net - and Rus blazes her return into the net!
Match point #3 for Serena...
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Arantxa Rus is having none of that.
She stands tall and batters a forehand winner off Serena's second serve to force deuce.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Oh!
Serena gets down on one knee, going for the glory shot - and, er, misses.
Still one match point to try and convert, though...
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
An outrageously angled forehand from Arantxa Rus ensures she draws first blood on the Serena serve.
Oh, Serena reels off the next three points, though, and she's got two match points.
Norrie v Bedene
It's almost time for another British hopeful, as Cameron Norrie takes to Court 14 to face Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene.
The 22-year-old has raced into the top 100 and will be making his second Wimbledon appearance.
It's an intriguing match-up too, with Bedene having previously competed as a British player.
*Monfils 7-6 (8-6) 3-4 Gasquet
Gael Monfils took the first set off fellow Frenchman Richard Gasquet on a tie-break, and the pair have traded breaks in the second.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion at Wimbledon
When champions smell the finish line they up their game or maintain it, they don't decelerate. You feel like Serena is not going to beat herself here.
*S Williams 7-5 5-3 Rus
Oh, that's a poor miss from Rus, though!
She advances forehand and shoves an uppish forehand into the net.
Serena will serve for a place in round two.
