That breeze threatens to cause a problem with Johanna Konta's ball toss, but the British number one settles herself and fizzes down a bouncer that Natalia Vikhlyantseva can't deal with.

Johanna Konta then, to get her first service game of her Wimbledon 2018 campaign under way, but the British number one finds it soaring back at her with interest and can't adjust her feet quick enough to reach it.

Konta quickly responds with three successive points.

I think Konta is a little tight in the shoulders, once she gets here serve flowing, it will go to the rest of her game. Her serve is such a threat.

Can't beat a family outing in the Wimbledon sun, and that's what the Wozniackis are doing today.

As world number two Caroline practises under the ever watchful eye of dad/coach Piotr, mum Anna and brother Patrik look on while nattering with friends on a row of wooden benches overlooking practice court 15.

Caroline only needed 59 minutes to beat first-rounds opponent Varvara Lepchenko yesterday - so she is spending about the same amount of time at Aorangi Park this morning.

It is not really entirely suited to her personality, being front and center and she struggled with it, doing press, people recognising here and seeing her face in the paper.

Her tennis has been affected, whether it is to do with that who truly knows, but we have not seen the same Konta since the last Wimbledon at all this year.

Unseeded Russian Natalia Vikhlyantseva will serve first.

    Del Potro v Gojowczyk

Everyone's favourite tennis giraffe, Juan Martin del Potro, gets his Wimbledon campaign under way today.

The Argentine is seeded sixth at SW19 after a year that has seen him win his first Masters title and reach the semi-finals of the French Open.

He's also one of the few men to topple Roger Federer this year, having beaten him at Indian Wells, although Delpo's best Wimbledon performance was reaching the semi-final in 2013.

You can watch his match against Germany's Peter Gojowczyk here.

Also about to get started is Derby teenager Jay Clarke, who knows he faces a tough test against experienced Latvian Ernests Gulbis.

The 19-year-old wildcard will be first up on Court 18.

"The draw could have been a lot worse, but you can't really look past Gulbis," said Clarke.

"He beat Juan Martin del Potro here last year, he made the third round, took Novak Djokovic to a tie-break set.

"He's beaten Roger Federer, he's been one of the top guys, so for me it is a big match. I'm not looking too much further in the draw past this guy."

We'll be keeping a keen eye on how Clarke gets on.

Serena Williams is in the area. However we can't see her. She's the queen around these parts and that means she wants some privacy.

See those courts down below the green fence? The seven-time champion is practising there. Where the prying eyes of journalists with camera phones aren't allowed.

Venus Williams is allowed, however, wandering past me and going on to the court next door to her little sis.

  13. Konta 'fighting for every point'published at 11:34 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

British number one Johanna Konta memorably beat Romania's Halep on her way to the semi-finals last year, eventually losing to five-time champion Venus Williams.

That run helped the 27-year-old climb to a career-high fourth in the world, but she has since fallen to 24th.

Konta could drop out of the top 50 after the championships, but says she does not feel any extra pressure by having to defend so many ranking points.

"At the end of the day I'm only accountable to myself," said Konta.

"To me, that means that I fight for every single point, that I'm clear on the way I want to play and I keep the attention on my side of the court."

    Apples or oranges?

    Ferrari or Aston Martin?

    Wimbledon or watch England?

From time to time we are forced to make tough choices, today is one of those times.

You're at Wimbledon but do you leave early to try to find a spot to watch England v Colombia?

So Lewis Jones of Gloucester, what are you going to do?

"We've got Court One tickets, so we get to watch Kyle Edmund," he tells BBC Sport. "I'll keep a keen eye on my phone to see how England are doing.

"Hopefully, England get through so I can get to watch them next time."

"I'd say it's 60-40 tennis," adds Mary Wetherall from Oxford.

    Sir CliffImage source, PA

Even Sir Cliff Richard has had his say on the British hopefuls at Wimbledon, and with Johanna Konta soon in action the entertainer is pleased the public "have some people to cheer for".

"It is a shame about (Andy) Murray, but I think it is probably a good idea. He can repair and prepare for the American (US Open)," said the 77-year-old.

"The fact is we have got some other players coming through - Johanna Konta has been doing really well - and it is good for the public to have some people to cheer for.

"Murray is a disappointment for me - he's my favourite - but I think it is for the best."
