    *Mladenovic 5-4 S. Williams

Well, this is hotting up now!

Serena bats a return back with added interest to get Kristina Mladenovic on the run, but the 25-year-old shows fantastic defence to stay in the point before Williams wraps one into the net.

It's Mladenovic who cracks the tape after another furious exchange, only to sling down an ace.

Huge forehand winner from Serena Williams. Some serious slugging from both players.

    That's 30-30.

Venus is using all her experience of playing in grand slams, situations like this, where she has been the favourite right now to read her opponent. Not just her game but her body language. She knows she is winning on that side as well.

Delightful. Kiki Bertens reminds Venus Williams why she was so dangerous in the early part of this match with a lovely drop shot that catches the American unawares.

It's difficult for Bertens now though. Venus was missing earlier but now everything is landing within the lines. Couple that with the thundering serves and you're always going to be in trouble.

    Bertens holds.

    *Mladenovic 5-4 S. Williams

Ooof. Grunt-worthy forehand winner from Serena Williams that leaves Kristina Mladenovic flapping at thin air on Centre Court.

Williams powers down her biggest ace of the day for a hold. She's asking the question of the Frenchwoman...

It is hard after you lose the second set when you were do close, dominated for most of the match, and now starting over. Bertens has leave the negative emotions behind, which is easier said that done.

    Mladenovic 5-3 S. Williams*

Kristina Mladenovic dances around a Serena Williams short ball and rattles it home.

"Come on," shouts Serena as she engineers some serious speed on a return to get her on the board.

She's not so pleased with the rest of the game, and hasn't quite found her range today.

Mladenovic polishes off with an ace that just clips the line.

She's the comeback queen of this year's tournament. Venus breaks and now looks favourite in the decider. It'd be the third time she has come through after losing the first set this year if she comes through.

  9. Fifth-set drama for Britons in doublespublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

British duo Jay Clarke and Cameron Norrie were leading two sets to one against Marcelo Arevalo and Hans Podlipnik-Castillo in their men's doubles first-round match.

But their opponents stole the fourth set and the pair are now tussling away in a thrilling fifth set (currently 12-12).

Dominic Inglot and his partner Franko Skugor could also be in for a dramatic finish - they have gone to five sets against Santiago Gonzalez and Marcelo Demoliner.

Compatriot Joe Salisbury is already through to round two with his partner Frederik Nielsen after their opponents Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin retired two sets and 3-2 down in the third.

And fifth seeds Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares comfortably beat Paolo Lorenzi and Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-5 6-2 6-1 on court 12.

The pressure is on Kiki Bertens now as she serves at the start of this deciding set after the disappointment of losing that tie-break.

Venus is looking at her best right now. Here's a break point...

  11. 'Perfect day' for Monfils and France... so farpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Little over two minutes after the half-time whistle blows in his nation's big World Cup match, France's Gael Monfils bounds into the main interview room.

First question? About the great timing of his media news conference...

"My first question when I got off the court was 'what is the score?' I knew it was 0-0 and then I rushed," he says after his four-set win against 11th seed Sam Querrey.

"I saw Raphael [Varane] score. It has been a perfect day so far."

    *Mladenovic 4-3 S. Williams

That's unlucky for Serena, and she puffs out her cheeks in frustration. The American lined up for what looked like a simple volley, only to see it change trajectory after hitting the tape and pop off her frame instead.

It sets Kristina Mladenovic up for two more break points... does it? Nope. Overruled. Perhaps Williams' luck is changing.

She goes from the possibility of being two break points down to holding serve.

  13. Game and second set - Venus Williamspublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    V. Williams 2-6 7-6 (7-5) 0-0 Bertens

Venus is fighting back from the brink. Her opponent Kiki Bertens was serving for the match earlier but Venus Williams is still in it.

Bertens gets a little wild on a forehand and drifts into the tramlines.

We've got a decider on Court One.

    Mladenovic 4-2 S. Williams*

Kristina Mladenovic has won eight of the last 10 points, she's only dropped one point on serve so far. Now can she consolidate the break?

A swiveling Serena Williams slings an awkward backhand into the tape, make that nine out of 11 for the Frenchwoman.

Wonderful retort from seven-time Wimbledon winner Williams, slapping a forehand wide of the 25-year-old to get on the board for the first time in two games receiving.

Another corking return from Williams, this time down the line, but she's on the turf after being wrong-footed by a passing Mladenovic winner.

A good hold for the world number 62.

But Kristina Mladenovic musters a response and then sears in a forehand that kicks up the chalk on the American's baseline.

Williams is rooted to the spot. Mladenovic breaks!
