    Nadal 6-1 4-2 De Minaur*

Pumping, grunting power from Rafael Nadal. He makes short work of an enthusiastic Alex de Minaur, who is working for every shot but just finds himself coming up against one of the best ever.

Top stuff from Nadal to hold.

    *Nadal 6-1 3-2 De Minaur*

A run of 17 points with the server ends as Nadal gets to 15-15 and some more crunching hitting brings up a break point for the world number one. Saved as a deep De Minaur backhand jumps up and Nadal misses it altogether. But the Aussie goes long on the second break point and Nadal is well in control.

Benoit Paire gets the first point of the game, before a terrific Del Potro serve out wide takes us to 15-15.

Paire nails a forehand winner at 30-30 but he's down on the ground, clutching at his hand. A brief delay ensues, before Paire spanks a forehand wide and Del Potro has match point.

    *Nadal 6-1 1-2 De Minaur

And De Minaur rises to the challenge. More booming serving taking him quickly through that game - no points dropped on serve in this second set so far.

    Halep 6-3 2-3 Hsieh*

Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan consolidates her break and holds for a 3-1 lead.

A no-frills, no-messing-about love hold for Nadal. Straight back to you, Alex.

  11. 'De Minaur needs to take control'published at 14:03 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    *Nadal 6-1 0-1 De Minaur

    Todd Woodbridge
Former Wimbledon doubles winner on BBC TV

Nadal has a lot of time between points, De Minaur needs to control that. When you play someone like Nadal, everything is orchestrated by his intent, whether it is the time between points, the pace of the point, the way he plays and how hard he hits it. Alex was getting pushed off the baseline, I would like to see him hold that if he can.

    *Del Potro 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 5-3 Paire

Lucky number five for Del Potro. He'll serve for the match.

First-set stats from Nadal-De MinaurImage source, BBC Sport

Big "come on" from Alex de Minaur as he moves to 30-0 and tries to gee himself up at the start of the second set. An ace on the next point prompts another "come on". And another ace seals a rapid-fire hold. That'll settle him down.

As you can see from the first-set stats above, it was fairly one-way traffic in Nadal's favour.

  14. Hsieh leads Haleppublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Halep 6-3 1-2 Hsieh*

Just when you think Simona Halep has taken hold on Court One, Hsieh Su-wei comes out fighting.

The world number 48 has broken the top seed again for a 2-1 lead in the second set.

This is proving to be a tricky test for the French Open champion.

  17. Game and first set - Nadalpublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Nadal 6-1 0-0 De Minaur*

Rafa Nadal to serve out for the opening set.

No messing around from the second seed. Almost like he's keen to get in and watch England in the footie? Well, with Spain being out and all...

A few "come on, Alex" cheers ring out around Centre Court, assume they're talking to the Australian rather than me.

It seems to spur the 19-year-old on, or fluster Nadal as he double faults. Eventually he holds, and takes the first set.

  18. Delay on court twopublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 7 July 2018

    Del Potro 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 4-3 Paire*

Benoit Paire tries to lob Juan Martin del Potro, which is a difficult thing to do when your opponent is six foot six.

A backhand into the net hands Del Potro three break points, but there's a delay as paramedics attend to a spectator who has fainted. It is hot out there.

Pin-point backhand from Rafa Nadal, he nonchalantly slaps a forehand winner to back it up without moving his feet off the Alex de Minaur second serve.

A double fault for the youngster, three break points. Nadal needs just the one and he's a double break to the good.

    Here's that earlier break...
