    Williams 3-6 1-0 Giorgi*

There's so sign of any fluster from Serena yet. She grunts her way through another point, ending it with a winner as she makes her way into the net. The crowd are being pretty even so far with their cheering. Which way will they go if this second set gets close?

Joel: Giorgi's very brave but there's a long way to go if she's going to pull off a shock

    Williams 3-5 Giorgi*

Serena Williams isn't playing badly here, mind. The American smashes down the fastes serve of the tournament so far en route to holding to love.

She forces Giorgi to serve out this first set.

Giorgi has taken Serena out of the equation. She is not worried, playing her tennis, and win or lose she will take that into the locker room.

She is playing lights out, and playing smartly too.

Julia Gorges has won a healthy 38% of her receiving points. It still wasn’t enough in the opening set.

She could only convert that tally into one break point and was punished by Kiki Bertens taking her chance in that fifth game.

    Bertens 6-3 0-0 Gorges

Julia Gorges continues to put pressure on Kiki Bertens' serve until the final game but the 20th seed holds to take the first set.

Will she push on in the second set?

Seriously, seriously impressive. Camila Giorgi saves four break points to hold against Serena and take a 5-2 lead in this first set. Giorgi looks to be moving far better than Serena right now. She's all energy while Serena is stretching trying to get the ball back in court.

That is the danger of hitting the ball as hard as Giorgi does. Sometimes it comes back at you even harder.

A grunt of "come on" from Serena. She's hunting that break back. A booming backhand winner brings up three break points.

My colleague Mr Jurejko will be gutted he's missing Drake on Centre. He's a big fan I heard...

This is a chance for Camila Giorgi.

Three errors from Serena. 15-40. Two break points.

    Centre Court can't believe it.

Plenty of power on show as Kiki Bertens and her former doubles partner Julia Gorges go for the heavy hits from the back of the court.

Ten winners and 11 unforced errors between the pair in the opening six games.

Only the previous game - Gorges holding to love - wasn’t the tennis equivalent of an arm wrestle between two bodybuilders.

    Bertens* 3-3 Gorges

Julia Gorges seems to have a slight upperhand in this first set. She's put Kiki Bertens' serve under pressure throughout and has been fairly comfortable in her own service games.

Bertens has got nerves of steel and hasn't blinked an eyelid when up against break points.

    Drake is in the house!

I can't say I thought I'd see the Canadian rapper drinking Pimm's at Wimbledon.

He's a regular at Serena's matches and they were rumoured to be an item back in the day.

He's seeing a good match so far. Camila Giorgi is out acing Serena.

Serena is fully focused already. She is grunting on every swing as the diminutive Giorgi tests her out again and then when the American disagrees with a call she just raises a finger to ask for a challenge.

Another hold to love. No points dropped on serve yet.
